in the last days i read a lot of vid cards, because i want to upgrade my PC.

It seems that there is a lot of confussion. I think we (or in especially me) need some assessment from the game experts.

Which of the following chip sets are the most suitable for FS (and for the new textures 512x512):

- 3dfx VSA 100 Voodoo 4 / 5
- ATI Radeon
- Nvidia GeForce 2 GTS
- Nvidia GeForce 2 MX

Hope that´s not to stupid.

Given this, and the fact that the card only renders polygons that are visible to the player, I reckon it could storm anything in SDOE where we're always worrying about poly count.

I've read the toms hardware one and he liked it but I didn't know it was faster then a V5, Its only 229 here and I'm thinking of picking it up.

It doesn't have T&L support but I think that was a big crock anyways, BUT it does have 64 megs, which is pretty insane for the price.

I think we are seeing a new contender, AND I have read that alot of the old 3dfx guys are being hired at another company (one I've never heard of) and Might be working on a version of the rampage.

Have you tried Simply Comuters down in Walthamstow E17?

I was near buying a Kyro II card from them mail order, alas they don't ship outside UK.

Videologic themselves have an on-line shop, which was my next choice but then I foud a local shop which said they were going to receive a shipment of Hercules Kyro II 64 MB cards last Thursday. The h*** they did! "Early next week" they said. Well, one cannot complain, it's still the first shipment of those ever coming to this town.

Oh, they are going to be around 105 UKP apiece, so if anyone is heading this way and the price looks right, please let me know so I could roll out those beer kegs for a feast (I shouldn't be really saying this after last night )

BTW, I was told that it's pointles to use this card with my kind of setup (Cel 433) as it is to slow for this card. But it surely won't be slower than my Matrox G-200! And I understand that the cause of the slowness in systems equipped with slow CPUs shown in the tests is the need for the CPU to handle that T&L thing, whatever that is (tinting and lighting? why on earth can't any of those guys use the proper name of the technique at least once ?).

Now SDOE doesn't use it, does it? In this case the Kyro II card cannot be any slower than a GeeForce card. I hope this is right

yeah I tried a geforcemx with my p2 333 and it wasn't any faster then my banshee. It was a waste of money with that processer.

I'm getting a 800 or higher duron BEFORE i get the new card though.

And i'm pretty sure it will be the kyro. The geforce 3 here is 629, 400 dollars more then the kyro.

Still, I'm not just shouting off because of Da Jugs post about this card, I'm realy looking for a new card so I've read atleast 10 reports and benchmarks and it's simply outstanding, why pay more for a 2MX when this is only slightly slower than a 2GTS, but the GTS will cost you nearly treble!

Pontait. Thanks for the info I don't get to travle much though, I live just outside of Manchester and don't have a car, but if they are asking £105 for it over here, I'll borrow a credit card and buy it online and have it shipped, damn they are only listed at $139 and you can even find them cheaper than that, UK price "SHOULD" be around £80, as usual it's a case of "rip off UK"
