Those of you working on 512x512 textures I advise to take a look at http://ww2f.dogfighter.com . In the Custom Modifications section and under for example the spit and the Me262 aircraft section you can find really nice templates for rivets and stuff in layered photoshop format. I don't think the original painter would mind you using them for SDOE as long as you give credit. But perhaps better ask. Check them out - they can save you hours of work!!! It's almost that one should consider remapping of planes that don't have that many skins (or new planes) to be compatible with the WWIIFighters layout.

Hey, great link! I always loved the look of WWIIF, it would be great if we could just convert some of these images over to SDoE.

That does look good but I would rather do the scheme myself.

I did convert a B-24 scheme over to tailgunners B24 when it's ready I already have a 512 scheme for it.

What vid cards do we need for the 512 and 1024 textures?

Pretty much any of the new ones i'm guessing?

I'm looking at the geforce 2 and 2mx

and the kyro 2

It should work with any of those right?

And not with my banshee?

Voodoo 4 and Voodoo 5

Geforce and Geforce 2 ( and 3)

Anything under these cards do NOT support high res textures. If you use them the game will crash since the card doesn't support them (well this is what happened in WW2Fighters)

Banshee does NOT support high res thextures.

check out the sys req for Warbirds 3 and that will give you a complete list of cards that support 512 textures.

Just think of all the textures we will be saving on new planes with this. 512 we can put a whole plane on one tif and paint a whole cockpit on one tif. No more of having to put planes on many textures just to get an ok res.

Maybe this is why my 512 textures don't show up, I'm using a V3. Are there any other aircraft in the PP I can test with that already have a 512 texture?

my old TNT2 Ultra supports 512 just fine. Not tried 1024 yet though.

Hmmm? I have not had a problem with my Banshee as of yet. What ships are using the hi/res files right now? I'll test this when I get home. (Maybe I just haven't tried out all the birds yet.)

WWD: I don't think there are planes that support 512 or 1024 available for download yet. You have to edit the plane in OPS (or ol) to get this (making yourself online incompatible in the process), or wait for the plane builders to post their updates.

Aui: nice work! Is this 1024?

I slammed my textures up to full and I didn't crash, I have a Voodoo Banshee. Frame rates are really murdered with the new patch though. I lost 50 to 75% and I don't think I will be able to go online with that, oh well.

What about a GeForce MX Psi? They're cheap and I'm pretty sure they support big textures.

Pachy, just thought I should emphasize that it's not my skin. I only very quickly converted one of the textures of WWIIFighters to see how high resolution skins would look in SDOE as I didn't have any others to play with.

The wings in the screenshot are about 480x230 pixels each and the fuselage 960x250. It's using two 1024 textures. Although a lot of it is just wasted space, but that actually may not do anything because of the texture compression we have now. Not quite sure how that works. BTW, does anyone know if it's possible to change the degree of compression? Or at what level it is at the moment?

I agree razer. But the good thing about those psp-files are that much of the tedious and boring work is already done (and IMO can't be made much better either). Eitherway it's a good template to start from.

Although I am biased towards SDOE I have to say that that 109 looks better than any Il-2 aircraft. They just seem way too shiny.
Now to start saving for a Voodoo 5....

Aui, that looks really nice! Do the current PP 6.0 109s have 1024 or 512 already assigned to them or did you have to change something? I painted a 51d in 512 and it doesn't show more than 256. However, Razer's 51b shows just great in 512 and I'm working on a layered 1024x1024 for it. (If anyone has a pic that shows all the rivets on 51s I'd be grateful)
Also, seems Jedi's f4u1a is still in 256 cause I have a 512 texture for it, yet it doesn't show as such.
So I guess what I'm asking is, is can we reassign more textures to each plane without ruining our online compatibility, or will this not affect that? Will the plane builders have to add the support for each plane in the next plane pack? Thanks

Siggmondo, Thanks for the suggestion. Casualty was very kind to offer me a card but ya know if this sim just keep getting better there'll come a time when I get a new system. BTW, for some strange reason my FR'S came back up in patch .9 as they did in .8 This I really don't understand unless it has to do with the cashe or something but the more I play it the more it improves. I'm now getting over a thousand frames a second ....LOL
