Hey fellow SDOE'ers!O.K. I have a little idea that I hope everyone will like. (who am I kidding ) All the details have not been hammered out, but it has taken enough form to present to you all for consideration. This is for those of you who enjoy batteling online in SDOE. http://www.world-at-war.com/tournament/index.shtml Let me hear your constructive feedback. PR=FC= IP: Logged |

Great idea! Even if I dont play on-line that much. Jeeves, dont worry about the WWI loadouts! They are correct right down to the bullet weight. (Well MOST of the values are correct at any rate. More so than the old WW2 loadouts. I got some good machine gun info and used it) IP: Logged |

Everyone bar a few who have given the online experience ago have come out of it having had a good experience provided they are prepared for the enevitable game crashes mis matches and many others. It can take ages to get the thing working but when it does its worth it,all the down loading the frustration it all melts away when you line up and take off and start having fun, grinning like a kid with a new toy. What Private Roger is proposing is the next step up.A natural progression for SDOE bringing everyone together to keep this wonderful Sim alive! The time is right lets face it Fighter Squadron needs a big event like this to get everyone buzzing again. Excellent proposal Private Roger IP: Logged |

Sound good to me PR.. I'll help out in any way I can, real life commitments permitting... I really get a lot out of the SW's and hang out for them each weekend, yeah I'm an addict I know.. . Don't know what I'm going to do until they start back up again. Going by the amount of mismatches and cdt carnage we had in the SW lobby this weekend just gone I think it's going to get worse until we have a new online std in place. I now have Harman's GP, Patch .8 and PP6.1 up and running well and have the searchlights and Mace's new Spitfire Float plane in aswell. Would be cool if everybody had these items too for any Tournament Wars.. Of course the logistics involved with planning and setting it all up will be a huge task I'm sure. Have you got all of the missions done already? If you need a hand making a few I'd be happy to help out where I can. Just need to finish an existing mission creation project first. ------------------

Thanks guys. My hope is that this event can go live around the 1st of July. In between now and then we will have a little work to do in preparation for it. Anyone wanting to volunteer to help will most likely not be turned down. We looked at all the events which preceeded this, and removed all those things that didn't work, or caused headaches, and then tried to incorporate all the great things about those events that added to the fun. My desire and expectation is that this will be a "self running" Tournament. Observers, mediators, etc. should not be needed. This will let everyone (including me) take part in it. We will run into challenges along the way, but none which cannot be overcome by simply tapping the resources found in this great community. Thanks for the input so far, I know more will follow. Sounds cool, but this will be a big problem for me I testet the .8 patch and PP6.1 online yesterday together with viper and i got only 10-14 fps.Without patch i got 40-60fps. My videocard is an TNT2Vanta 16MB.I don´t know why the patch slow down my FR so much (both in D3D and OpebGL) Rendsburger IP: Logged |

Rends I'm getting something similar to you. I just ran .8 and PP6.1 online in Open GL for the first and got no more than 10 or 11 fps but in D3D for the same mission, I got around 30 to 40 fps. My card is a Tnt2 m64, 32 meg.------------------ IP: Logged |

Looks very good PR! Then some feedback: quote:
...each squad must fly every mission at least once... ...The winning squad will be the one with the highest point total...
Since there will be a minimum mission amount for each team to fly, I recommend the winner will be the one with the highest points/mission total. This way the squads consisting only of unemployed 24h/day SDOE-holics won't take the win (too easily).

PR, let me know if you need any help, you got my email address. I like everything but the WWII PTO. In IMO there are no fair match ups in PTO. Let me state that there is nothing wrong with the Zeroes. The Wildcat and Corsairs are just too uber to be fair for the other side. The P38F would be fine but that is the only Allied plane I can think of in the PTO.------------------ 7./JG3_Himdog out www.luftwaffe.net IP: Logged |

Kar and Rends; just a thought. I came online yesterday and played a couple of missions with Shark, Viper, and Psi, and in OpenGL I was getting frames 29 - 70 dependent upon views. No bombs or anything like that, and we were all using basically the parfiles only ( I did have a Spit skin loaded in my ac folder, but that was all I had in it ). Have you both had the low frame rates with that setup? One thing you might try is running Glide, if you have it, until the OpenGL renderer is refined a bit more? Otherwise, I haven't a clue. ( I run my OpenGL off a Herc GeForce 2 MX with 7.58 Nvidia drivers ).

Excellent idea, would love me to participate. But, I need of some volunteer that understands my language and make of he/she interprets with the other ones. Me alone, it would be very difficult to understand what goes happening to the tournament.Excelente idea, me encantaría participar. Pero, necesito de algún voluntario que comprenda mi idioma y haga de interprete con los demás. Yo solo, sería muy difícil para comprender lo que va sucediendo con el torneo. IP: Logged |

Great idea... I am glad you have also included WW1 as the modders for that are kicking out something fierce lately. This will only help them more tweaking out some of the finer points in the models. Count me in. The addition of ground pack missions is also a great idea. I hope this leads to more squad wars using all of these types of models. Murdock http://members.nbci.com/pgrob/ IP: Logged |

Got some good input going on here.
CamouflageYep, that's a good point, and I see no reason not to figure the winner that way. Great suggestion!
Rendi & K2If this problem you are having is wide spread, or cannot be resolved, then I would think that we would take the proper steps to address it prior to the Tournament. That might mean running the Tournament minus the Patch, but before we make any drastic decisions, let's see how things shake out. We have time yet. Don't worry Rendi & K2, you will not be left behind.
HimLet's look a little closer at the PTO options and see what opportunities we have. We may have to be creative, but thats the fun part. Your help is always appreciated.
MurdockThe addition of WWI in this Tournament is critical to it's success. Please help me spread the word about it to your brethren. Thanks for all the input guys, and keep it coming! PR=FC=

Just a little update on this...Our good friend Esox will be assiting with a web page for info concerning the Tournament. The Tournament web site will allow squads to register as well as providing a place for the results of matches to be posted, etc. From what I have read the release of the next WWI PP is imminent. Is that correct? If so I would imagine that will be the PP we will use for the Tournament. Any pilots who are not currently in a squad, but who would like to participate in this event please make yourself known. You can post here, or email me directly at Pvt.Roger@Home.com Volunteers for testing missions, and the general Tournament set-up will gladly be excepted. Just let me know if you want to help. I hope to go live with this by July 1st! PR=FC= p.s. anyone know when 1.5.2.9 will be out? [This message has been edited by Private Roger (edited 06-06-2001).] IP: Logged |

AGAS-5The great thing about the Tournament is that you will not fly as a gun-for-hire, or become an interloper to another squad. You will become part of a squad! At least for the Tournament anyway. You will have other squadmates to fly with during the course of the event. Practice between all of you will be critical to your success trust me. A group of 5 skilled pilots who fly as indivdiuals have no chance against 5 pilots of equal skill, or in many cases less skill, but who fly as a cohesive unit. I've witnessed that time after time while flying against the Jg3 boys. Not that they are not all skilled pilots, thats what makes them all the more challenging. My hopes for all the solo pilots in SDOE is that they fly in this Tournamnet and learn what it is to truly fly as a squad. Ask anyone who flys as a member of a squad and they will tell you that the thrill, and level of satisfaction of flying someones wing well exceeds any other experinece you will get playing this game. So let's just add your name to the first Squad Agas-5, and get ready for a great ride! PR=FC=

Private Roger, yes the release of the next WWI PP is imminent. It should be out in less than a months time. (Possibly even 2 weeks) Ive just asked Dogma to do an installer for it aswell. The only things that are still on the to-do list is the Ca.33 (VERY close to being done) and the Nieuport 17, and the installer if Dogma decides to do it.Until that time, you guys can use the Test Pack 2, or the 1st OP-WWI Plane Pack. The OP-WWI Plane Pack 2 should be a BLAST on-line! So many new things, and bombers!!! IP: Logged |

PRI have flown the pp6.1 with the .8 patch off/on for the past couple weeks. I don't think the score portion is working proper. I have noticed in the "post war" lobby where the scores are reflected, and some are not correct. At this point I can not give any specifics or patterns..... need to pay closer attention. We that have been flying, have been more concerned with FM & DM on the different planes. If there is a problem, I am not sure if it is in the patch or the plane pack. It would seem to me that you could not have this squad war without the new patch. So if there is a problem and it's in the patch, obvioulsy this needs fixing. Just thought I would pass this along since it may effect your plans for determining a squad winner. ------------------ Archer ^I^ IP: Logged |

ArcherThe scoring you are talking about I have never used (personally) as a way to measure the outcome of a match. The method we have used in every event I was a part of was by having everyone stay in the mission until all planes were down. The winner of the matches in the Tournament will be (hopefully) very easy to determine, but more on that later. This is not to diminish the need to fix any inconsistancies in the scoring system in place, but in terms of the Tournament it should not be a problem. Thanks PR=FC= IP: Logged |
