No longer will you have to worry about hitting other planes cause you can't see them well in night missions. Warning, these pics aren't good and the lights are 10 times better in game its a simple copy and paste to add to other planes (well and change the names in the dofID) Plus you can so rotating lights for newer planes or older planes that had them. I'm still working on blinking lights but i think that wont happen anytime soon. Nat and I are working on a few other nice Night light add-ons. Oppss, almost forgot. I plan to make the lights a tad bigger to be seen a little better and you can turn the lights on and off when you want. Hey great Jug Raz, nice work there, I like em the way they are, they look to scale. What about instrumentation lights for night missions? And I'm going to need a flashlight for behind my seat too P IP: Logged |

I'm at work on a crappy 233 so i'll make this short.I could add it to guages but that would take a little longer to add since the gauges shouldn't be alphas since it makes the color wierd. I thought about making the lights have LODs and make the lower ones get a little bigger so you can see them from far off but right now it's just 1 LOD (2 polys) for each light on the plane. You hit shift L and the lights come on, hit it again and they go off. You can see them when your about 150 ft away but further then that and they aren't really noticable. I could get guages a small green tint but it would take me longer then 5 mins to add it in each plane. you know, i thought more people would like this, guess friday isn't a good day to post new things. would also like to remind you they look way better in game then in those crappy pics. Cool! PBY also had a white "formation light" on the outside/top part of the wing.... But I suspect that would be no problem.... Cool Razer!!! IP: Logged |

Razer,This is very cool. Can you have this for all planes for pp6.2 or will this be a pp7.0 type thing? I am sure the ai can't use these but can you think of a way like using a night time loadout or something? Great work! BTW, I agree, Friday afternoon before labor day is not a good time to post a new feature and get a lot of responses about it. We were all getting ready for the weekend or at happy our cause work let us out early. ------------------ Condor out IP: Logged |

well, I've been thinking about this at work since I was bored with nothing to do and I've come up with this. The lights at one point started off and you had to turn them on. But after a few things that stopped happening and they started on. Then it hit me, If they start on and you have to turn them off for day missions that's not a big thing to do, And if they start on for night missions everyone online will see them. Also means AI planes will use them too. If they start off then it's really only something you (the player) will see. It's the same way with the moving cockpits. If we had the cockpits start off openned then online games would see open cockpits (even if the plane has it closed but that goes back to the no DOF thing online). About adding the lights to other planes? It's as simple as knowing where the lights are, what color lights that are, then using OPS to copy and paste the lights, then changing the name in the dof to match the plane. It would make it in 6.2 but there is a lot of planes and i just don't have any free time anymore. [This message has been edited by Razer (edited 05-26-2001).] IP: Logged |

Hey Raz, I was thinking rather than lighting every instrument is it possible to just add a cockpit light that would light up the whole instrument panel. And I think a green tint would be cool. Not that you have to take this project on your self, I was wondering if it is possible. P IP: Logged |

Hey PSI, well, it's a nice idea, but it wouldn't work for one good reason.. there are no lights in SDOE we can only make an object light up, but not be light up my a light source, so taking a Soviet cockpit dial as an example, you would need to make the needles Alpha so they light up, and also the dial itself the markers and readings would neen to be alpha. It's one helluva lot of work to add it to exhisting aircraft, but it's a cool idea to know how to do it for anyone building new aircraft that want to add it

Searchlights use the same idea that the Nav lights work on, and then they are just stuck on the flak turrets.IP: Logged |

Those searchlights are very cool to see in operation in night missions too. Can somebody tell me if they are included in PP6.1 or will be in the next PP at all? Thx ------------------ IP: Logged |

I do think they are worth adding now with easy control over lighting effects, it's just a shame that contrails still "glow" ------------------ =V67th= "Naturlich" "SDOE... What and where would you like to fly today?" http://members.nbci.com/naturlich/index.htm </B> IP: Logged |

Adding them to runways is a snap, take about 5 mins to be very honest. One thing I just thought though... Which side should be green and which red? LOL, just thinking we better sort that out since they are there to tell exactly that, I'f mine and your are different (which I think they are right now) then that would be silly. Infact.. from checking some Mig images, mine are the wrong way round, Redlight on the left wing tip. I'll sort that out now. OK, Runways... I can add landing lights, but how should they be? Were they actualy lights or little fires? I ask because it was wartime and I aint that old lol Were they down the centre of the runway, or down the sides? If so, were they also Redlights on the left, green on the right, to show a pilot which way he should be landing? Or failing any of that, what would you prefere? IP: Logged |
