How come the "Ultimate P-38" zip on SimFiles only has the .tifs and the readme? I lost it and want to reinstall it. Where is the rest...like the .sm, loadout, etc? The readme says is comes with Hangar and Training Missions too.IP: Logged |

No, it was listed as a separate plane in the Aircraft folder. It was texture mapped differently so it could take hi-res textures. Even had it's own Training/Hangar missions.IP: Logged |

Jerry...Are you sure you don't mean the P-38 (mod)? That one had its own missions and such--I have a copy of it and it is a great plane-- I wish we could replace the default J with it But I think the Ultimate P-38 was just a skin (Dan W's if I'm not mistaken)-- could be wrong though ------------------ Brought to you by the campaign for a better Dauntless! I think the "Ultimate" series were a set of skin templates for doing your own skins. They had all the panel lines and so forth...------------------ --jedi-- IP: Logged |

There was the P-38mod_lo and the P-38mod_hi. I did the texture mapping and Dan painted the skins. It was really nothing more than an experiment to see what a super high resolution plane would look like in SDOE. We also did it to help us get better aquainted with Openplane. In retrospect, it was kind of a goofy project... the high resolution textures are sort of at odds with the low polygon count of the model... Don't get me wrong, the model is good considering the low polygon count, but slapping a high res skin on something like that doesn't really make sense. Anyway, both planes use something like 5 to 10 bitmaps... I don't remember exactly how many. The difference between the two is that the P-38mod_hi uses 256x256 sized textures and the P-38mod_lo uses 128x128 sized textures. IP: Logged |

all planes will have the options to have high res schemes once Bryan adds the 512x512 texture support. Though only new video cards will be able to see them (I.E Voodoo4-5, and all Geforce) IP: Logged |
