Unless you've customized the key command you can press the letter 'z' on you'r keyboard, and that saves a screenshot to your main Fighter Squadron folder.

if you press 'Shift' and 'z' the game takes lots of consecutive screen shots. Saved to the same place.

There is the Z key thing, but I have found that the quality of the pictures is not the same as in-game. (is there a config setting I'm missing that may correct this?)

There is also a product called HyperSnap (by Hyperion?) that takes great shots, but if you use it too fast (many consecutive shots), I find that it will crash the game.

I find that using the Z key gives me a perfect reproduction of what I see on the screen, where it gets messed up is what you do with it afterwards, example: In the Projects forum you'll see pics of the Mig, they are massive in size, but small in KB, if I were to reduce them with Photoshop they then use MORE Kb but look far far worse, so I do think the problem isn't in the screen capture itself but how you change it afterwards.
