on the back of the box it says that the aircraft are "skinnable". Can I do this without learning how to make new planes? if I can, will I be able to use a skinned spitfire online or will my opponent need a copy as well? what is nose art? am I talking utter rubbish?IP: Logged |

all the planes are skinnable....just take a very sharp knife.. seriously, though.....
You can re-skin all the planes. First up, you need to get hold of a program called Irfanview. It will open the 'odd' tif format of the stock planes. Then re-save them as ordinary tifs. The tif files are hidden in 'par' files, a compressed format the game shipped in. There are tools to un-compress them to get the files out. Da Wing Waxer has the OpenPlane tools posted at his site, I think. Then just fire up your favourite paint program and away you go! To use your new creation in-game, just create a directory under 'media' in the FS directory: media : aircraft : whatever your plane is called : textures Make sure the plane name is correct and your new texture will show up in game! Easy really ------------------ =V67= IP: Logged |

Skins are client side only. No one online will see your schemes.IP: Logged |

Maybe this is something that should change now that a patch is in the works? If you have your opponents skin in a directory on your hard drive, you see it, otherwise you see the default skin for that aircraft. It'll make texture memory issues apparent but great strides have been made in the area of texture compression. I think we should figure out a way to have the game add the insigs and plane numbers. Then we can have it randomly set plane numbers so each plane will "look" different. Plus it would make schemes easier since you only need to paint the plane and leave off all the little things. This is how IL-2 handles it and I've seen the schemes and they are a lot easier to paint then a normal scheme in say this game or WB3. IP: Logged |

Lets be honest here, the only time your close enough to see any differences (bar totally different schemes) is under 500ft or less. And no-one in SDOE will let you stay there for long!Snake IP: Logged |

Snake, we were thinking about same team schemes. It would be nice to fly next to your wingie and not see the same thing you have.IP: Logged |
