Hi Guys, I finaly had the money (and parts were cheap enough) for me to upgrade to a "real" PC.I got myself the Duron 900 and a ViaKT133A DDR m/board What this means for me is that in almost any mission I get a constant 30FPS with full detail levels and cloads. OK, whay only 30FPS you ask.. simple answer, my upgrades are running fine, but my V3 2000PCI is now maxed out, so adding more stuff to as mission doesn't slow it down, just the g/card shows it all as fast as it can. OK, in the future I'll have to upgrade that, but 30FPS every mission is simply awsome for me after being lucky if I got 20fps with just a single fighter before! I've gone from an AMD K62 550 to the Duron, and what a change man, all benchmarks leave my old one in the dust, hell my RAM is 3 times faster now in every dept and the graphics card almost doubled in speed. Current prices here in the UK, Duron 900 cost £76 and the board cost me £80, both well worth the money now I can fly with now slowdown IP: Logged |

Congratulations Nat I can't figure why you only got 20fps with your 550. I get 40 to 80 online with my PII 400, except if there are 17's or Lanc's. Hey while I got ya what is 80lbs in US currency???P IP: Logged |

The old M/b was an MSI (Microstar) 5169, 100mhz FSB, max 550mhzThe Motherboard is a Jetway 663AS Ultra, it's ATA 100, DDR (200mhz FSB for Duron, 266mhz FSB for Athlon), 5 PCI, 1 ISA, 1 4x GP and 1 AMR slot, Award BIOS and has the latest Via KT133A chipset. I guess alot of people look down on Jetway, but try getting a DDR board for just £80 - $130. The board DOES'T require DDR SDRAM, standard PC100 or PC133 will run on this DDR board, plus it can be mixed with VC SDRAM (don't ask me what that is.. it's Virtual Channel SDRAM). To sum it up, the board is excellent value for money, try finding another DDR board so cheap. Benchamrks: The Duron 900 CPU benches more than 200% faster than the K62-550, same with the FPU, Video speed has almost doubled, HD has more than doubled, but the RAM has increased from 3times faster with large files, to 9 times faster with small files. Quiet simply, I've gotten a MASSIVE performance boost for relatively a small amount of money and couldn't be happier with it, the only thing now that will increase my FPS really is a new graphics card, although a garunteed 30FPS in just about every mission still brings a smile to my face lol I'm realy chuffed now cause testing my aircraft ect has been real tough on a slow machine, now worries of that now IP: Logged |

congratulations Nat,When I changed my old K6-2 400 for a PIII-500 I couldn“t believe...so Happy. The K6-2 was killing my SDOE and with the PIII each old mission was like a new one. Have Fun. Loco
