Screamin Vehicles Accross Europe? With Harman's great work (and others) on making more vehicles operational in SDOE, perhaps a terrain especially made for them might be in order? Depending on the variety of the vehicles, and the operational ability, a terrain that is better suited to driving on, and perhaps one that had more cover, ie. better trees, more buildings, fences, etc. might be nice. Also, perhaps a terrain with more real roads, etc. I would think it could be smaller than the stock terrains, if that is even possible, or would impact in a positive way the performance of the game. After all 40 miles is a hike driving. I'm mostly throwing this idea up for consideration. I have no real idea if it's needed, or even feasible. I'll leave that to the SDOE modellers to debate. Just struck me as something we could consider. Thanks for reading. PR=FC= IP: Logged |

Good idea!Attack Regiment: Screamin Vehicles In SDOE (not so good a name I know) Maybe making the terrain more 'rough' in some areas to simulate off-road areas like mud and grass, dirt, etc so when you drive over it, the vehicle will rock around. The terrain we have now is pretty flat and nice everywhere you go. It'll be cool to test the strength of the vehicles suspension Also having proper roads as you said and maybe this is a long shot, but having areas like little rivers with water plates, then I could make amphibious (sp?) vehicles This sort of terrain could be about 20 miles or so in size. Something for the terrain gurus to think about ------------------ Visit FS:SDOE Online [This message has been edited by Harman_5 (edited 05-09-2001).] IP: Logged |

I agree with PR! Great idea. Given the kind of vehicles we have (largely late war, western front) perhaps we could kill two birds with one stone here and get ourselves a Normandy Beaches terrain. What with hedgerows for cover and the new water innovations mace et al have come up with, aren't we at the threshold of moving ships? Moving ships is very much a possiblity imo, Just take a vehicle, remodel it, and add the float system used in the 'Rufe' by Mace. The only prob is that objects placed over water in the mission editor are automatically made to start mid-air when you start the mission. This may be overcome however by making the ship start at say 2 or 3 feet in the air, then it will gently drop into the water on mission start ------------------ Visit FS:SDOE Online IP: Logged |

So if somebody with talent makes us a Normandy terrain does this mean we'll get a Sherman with the big teeth on the front for busting the hedgerows? Oh and Flail tanks and DDS's and a Crocodile? (It's a Churchill tank with a big can of fuel on a trailer that fed the flame thrower)[This message has been edited by Sunray (edited 05-09-2001).] IP: Logged |

That wasn't what I was getting at Sunray, but... uh if you want to build those things go for it! My point was that we've already got a drivable Sherman, Tiger, US and German Halftracks, French Car, and we will soon have a couple different supply trucks and possibly a Panther. Just a thought, but has anyone tried to use these vehicles on-line, in missions like "get away from Abbeville in a Citroën under Stuka attack" or "Drive a Truck Convoy across the Bridge before the Typhoon catches you" ? Any takers ? It could be worth a try SailorIP: Logged |

Sailor, I don't about others around here, but I'd love to try these vehicles online. At the very least, it would give me an insight as to how they perform (if at all) online. ------------------ Visit FS:SDOE Online IP: Logged |

I'm sure efveryone noticed it but it gets boring very quickly as soon as nothing is around you. Also its very hard to judge speed. Therefore a new terrain should have something like a small bush or rock every 10 feet so you can 'see' how fast you are going.Snake IP: Logged |

SailorIndeed we have used certain vehicles online. In the Squad Wars (which take place every Saturday), we had a mission where a GMC truck (driven by yours truely) had to drive from one airfield to another all while being pursued by the dreaded Axis. I came sooo close to making it too. The work being done on the ground units has the 'potential' to add yet one more element to this great sim of ours. Not even the much heralded IL-2 promises the ability to drive ground vehicles. At least not last time I checked As Werner said before, I get the feeling we may be looking at the beginnings of a whole new kind of SDOE War! PR=FC= IP: Logged |

We could turn this into a tank sim! Not the best in the world mind you... But what other 2 year old sim lets you drive tanks and vehicles along with airplanes? None! IP: Logged |

Our Tank DM is better than Panzer Commanders'...If it weren't for my commitment with the JG3 I'd seriously start up an online Armoured Regiment once this pack comes out. Werner ------------------ Visit Abbeville Field Today! IP: Logged |

You know, perhaps now is the time when we can start bugging the Patch team to fix the bug (yes, it's a bug as it's in the specs) so that tires can be targets for the engines. Should this be implemented, then we would have a proper vehicle simulation in SDOE. It's not like the team has to much work on their hands already or anything .How about it, folks? -Gecko =FC= IP: Logged |
