1100 Hours: The quiet town of El Djem in North Africa.

1105 Hours: The sneaky arrival of a lone German Sd Kfz 251 equipped with mortar equipment goes unnoticed by the towns' inhabitants...

1109 Hours: The mortar crew prepare the mortar and shells and begin taking aim...

1120 Hours: The first shells are fired...

1120 Hours: The shells finds their mark, shaking the town to its roots, one after another...

1135 Hours: All 75 mortar shells are expended, as the smoke clears, it is apparent that the surprise attack inflicted serious damage on the town...

1135 Hours: The quiet town of El Djem.

This and many more new vehicles and weapons, coming soon to a Ground Pack near you!

Shameless plug I know...

Hehe, hold on Commando, I can't do 'em all at once...err actually

The 3D model for the R75 is secured, it has wheels and a rider, it rides 50-50 in SDOE, it just needs a decent texture and the ground handling needs serious work too.

Oh yes, it also needs a machine gun, won't get far without that

Fantastic! I love the helmet on this guy! It looks great.

Once Harman finishes the pack it may be time to consider a new kind of SDOEwar.

Night combat...I may have to consider adding working headlights on the vehicles then...Rendsburger? Where are you?

It sure is a shiny helmet Werner, a little more combat, and that's sure to fade...

TEASE!

Looks sweet Harman! How did you manage the mortar? (Getting it to shoot up and come back down I mean...) Is it a real heavy bullet, or a "rocket" powered shell?

LoL thanks Argon.

The Mortar was achieved after a short think. SDOE has the rocket thrust hard-coded so by just increasing the weight of the rocket projectile, I can get it to become lazy Then just delete the rocket flash effect behind it and make it point skyward and it's done. The mortar can also be aimed (moved forward and backward, left to right) by the gunner.

I didn't think of the heavy bullet idea, the advantage of a rocket though is that you can F4 to it and see how it's going. The dis is that each rocket weighs 200 pounds and having 75 of them literally makes the Halftracks' rear sag down!

DROOL AGAIN!
This is the kinda stuff I wanted to to do when I did the Desert Fox Campaign! Are these babies more online stable? Until the AI can handle ground units, this will be the only way to get the real potental of these babies! BTW, Think the Patch Guys could do something for the AI so it could drive? nudge, nudge
Harman, you are the man!

OK Harman...I have two words for you--

"Stalin's Organs" or Katyusha? Basically a Russian truck with craploads of rockets I have mentionned it before-- but seeing your work here, you are our best chance of seeing it happen

Lol thanks guys,

Hip, not sure about the online bit, must try it out soon, you are dead right, online is the only real potential for these unless you create a campaign where the AI controls the planes and static ground units, and the player just goes in with these things and blows everything away, etc

Hehe, yes, the Patch team, I was thinking of that too, I really wish they could get the rockets to collide with plane class objects, and not go right through them.

Jeeves, this Hanomag has 75 rounds already, are you suggesting more?

Yeah Jeeves, I've literally dozens of vehicles waiting to be finished right now, even if I can't get the one you're saying into the pack, I could always release it seperately afterwards along with any others.

Cheers guys

Hi all,
i was just wondering that ships' heavy cannons have "bullets" that don't explode when hitting the ground; yes, you can make heavy damage to structures, but explode the structure, not the "bullet". Maybe it's possible to transfer the method by Harman to ships' cannons, so i could see where the cannon-balls are falling, even if long distance

It couldn't be added to ship cause they sink only drivable units can use rockets, to drive they need inertia, add inertia to a ship and it sinks.

Looks damn cool Harman!

Thanks guys,

Psi, if you're talking about the mortars' colour, thats only a "test" texture. I've also made some changes to the explosive power and other some other stuff. What you see here has been mightily improved upon now.

Thats great mortor truck,,

Would it be possible to take your ground soldier and put rollerskates on him and then we could have axis verses allied infantry, Online , engaging with a gun/bazooka in a actual battle with tanks and all these objects and being strafed by planes , while hiding in the buildings from the morter, all ONLINE,,, ohh this sim is getting better everyday,,, luv it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Working infantry! i'm sure lag will be of minimum concern at 5 mph walking!

Thanks Pye,

Lol on rollerskates

I wish I could figure out a way of making the legs of the soldier move like real and then hide the wheels

Then, it would be very easy to give him a gun or whatever, and then make some detailed houses with doors and interiors

Nice story Pye, thanks for that.

It's great to hear my vehicles work online, that's probably where they'll be most useful. I know what ya saying about the GMC rolling over and getting back on its wheels again. I hope to fix this before the pack release.

You'll soon have more vehicles to drive. After the pack is released, try going online and take the Halftrack AAA with 4 x machine guns on its rear turret. Make steel spaghetti out of those strafing planes

Hmm, I know, the infantry will be a good idea for online too. Maybe I'll work on them after pack release. It won't take too long to make a person.

Thanks!

Not yet Aladar. It will be released as part of a ground pack with many other vehicles. Only two vehicles remain that need serious work now. I hope to release at least a beta of the pack by the end of this month.

Thanks for asking!
