Whats a safe drop Alt. ? I'm at 20,000 and still getting killed by the shockwave.

If you use the latest Beta patch, this won't happen. Bryan has been playing around with the blast radius and is pretty close to having it solved-- the game on its own multiplies the blast of a big bomb to obscene proportions

Past that-- there really is no real "safe" height to drop....but I like to see the fix near completion instead of having to fudge the actual numbers to make it work.

If you're using the Lanc Special (and the Tallboy that comes with it) the lowest I've survived a drop is about 12000 I think. Grand Slam not below 18000 or so.

The key is turning immediately 90 degrees away and accelerating to at least 300 mph, even if it requires diving.
