OK-- you mission makers know what I am talking about-- you set up a sophisticated CAP pattern to keep enemy fighters off your bombers inbound for a target-- and instead- the enemy fighters go for the target and ignore enemy fighters. Damn annoying, isn't it?

Well-- thanks to the mighty Rensdburger, I found out about a fix...in his words:

Open the Classes.ppf with an texteditor and search for following line:
obData 'cap_set ( 'aircraft_set 'landcraft_set 'seacraft_set )
Now delete the landcraft_set and the seacraft set.
Now it should look like this:
obData 'cap_set ( 'aircraft_set )

Save it and from this time your fighters only attack planes in CAP.

So-- I think we need to incorporate this change into the next PP-- do you guys agree? It is located in data3.par-- so I hope we can change it-- it would be great to see CAP work as it should

I hate sounding like this, but doesn't this break all existing missions? Or do the ground attack missions use 'Sweep' instead of 'CAP'?

Ground Attack missions SHOULD use sweep.

P.S. Can you guess what the key word is in my above post?

P.P.S. Jeeves, did you know that if you set the mission objective destruction factors differently/accordingly, the AI will take priority over what to shoot at first? Kinda wierd, but Ive seen it work!

I know Argon, I just meant this kind of change needs a little regression testing, as software developers say. Some people, including myself, play the missions that originally came with the game from time to time, so it may be useful to check some of them are still playable.

But I generally agree with Jeeve and Rend's proposition, because I ran into that problem myself. When you play the Normandie-Niemen scramble mission, you are alone in a Yak versus several Fw190's and, instead of teaming up against you, they strafe some useless ground stuff while you are getting on their wingman's 6

Well-- if I have my way, the games default training missions and others will be revised anyways It would make current projects and campaigns easy though...

For the future-- all mission makers (to put it into Argon's word) should use Sweep if they want ground attack done and keep CAP to planes only!

Well in my O I think that's been a problem that has plagued FS from the start. If this is a fix for the cap v sweep thing then I think we should fix it. One question though, if it was just a typo then why wasn't it discovered and fixed before now?
