Does it cost anything to play on the server? I may fly on-line one day... What does one need to get started with on-line playing? IP: Logged |

It's all free Argon, you think we would be playing this sim if we had to pay? We would all be playing WB3 or Aces High. IP: Logged |

Knowing the work you do on betas Argon... if you've got HD space to burn you might want to consider a second install, with just 1.5, PP6.0 and Nv2. You may still run into people using the new patch online and/or spoonman's loadouts, but with 1.5/Nv2/PP6 you're pretty safe, on the whole.Werner ------------------ Visit Abbeville Field Today! Werner, LoL already done. I did that a long time ago to test out the patch with. Ive also got a WWI install for JUST WWI. I decided to split it up from my beta install today because that beta install was geting WAY to HUGE! The mission editor was being too screwy and the game CTDed after every 4-7 missions. So I cleaned it up a bit (Cut out old betas/fakes and saved them in zips for future reference) and decided to let WWI have its own install. But isnt there some utility program I need to get to see the servers or something? I forget... IP: Logged |

ArgonV - no utility. Just a internet connection, and the game. Boot it up, select your pilot, and click on Network, California 12, one of the lobbies. The only thing you might need is a servers.dat file, if yours doesn't show all the servers. Most anyone would be glad to send you one, or get the one from Simfiles. Yours should work, though.

Argon,Go to the Fighter Squadron central site at http://fscentral.50megs.com Click on the Online "button" on the right and you'll find a tutorial for getting into an online game. It tells you what you need and takes you a step by step walk thru on how to join a game (with pictures) ------------------ ------------------------ Which end does the propeller thingy go on? Jetlag, yes, nice combats whe have yesterday! And itīs much more difficult to fight against humans than AI :-) PSI hmm, what do you mean?I have Spoons installed now and no problem with them? But again, why is it so hard to take-off with some planes (p51).I tried all suggestions.60percent throttle, rudder left... Most time theP51 starts to turn on the runway.Did i need flaps down?Any Hints?Rendsburger

I've never flown online (yet), but about the P51, try pulling back on the stick at speeds below 50-60mph, because the rudder won't be effective at low speeds, keep the tailwheel on the ground. The tailwheel will hold the plane straight and when you reach speeds of around 90-100mph, you can let the tail off the ground and use the rudder to guide the plane. ------------------ Current projects: * Drivable ground object pack: 61% * Drivable ground object tutorial: 60% * Ju88A4 DM v6.3: 95% Visit FS:SDOE Online IP: Logged |

LoL yeah I was there! Razer shot me down once, and then Glide screwed up so I was fighting Harman with mulit-colored everything! Then I ran into a cliff cause I couldnt see where I was going but I was still engaged with Harman. (We were swapping tails) Then we played another game and I was the only survivor. Stab shot Harman down and then ran out of gas so I broke off him... and went in for a good landing. Looks like I need to brush up on my on-line flying skills. IP: Logged |

I didn't get one set up in April, but there will be at least one in May. Especially since we've picked up new users from the simHQ posts. IP: Logged |

It was a very nice surprise to meet that many people online the other night ! Rends, you might want to install SDOE Beeper, it's really usefull to tell you when and where people are connected. Think I got it from Tailslide's site (not sure though). Concerning Spoons loadouts, I use 2 media aircraft directories, one with all the betas and new planes and one with only spoons loadout. So you just have to rename them to something else before you launch the game to have 2 different sets of planes : - both dir. have diff names => you have only PP6.0 + NV2 - one dir. is named "aircraft" => you have either spoons loadouts (for on-line when required) or you have all the beta/latests versions of the planes for off-line flying. I discovered on-line flying recently thanks to DJH (now DWW ) and I wonder how I could have missed that fun till now ! Cheers SailorIP: Logged |

Though I've only been online a handful of times in SDOE, I'm a 3 year vet of online RB3D. There is nothing more exciting than to encounter a real human in the virtual skies, as the human will try to do things that an AI pilot cannot--or will not--attempt. After awhile, you will begin to recognize each pilot's tendencies in a given machine and learn how to counter his/her tactics. You will also find that the battle doesn't begin when the first shot is fired, but rather as soon as one or all combatants first see eachother. In RB, I can be in a fight for upwards to 20 minutes before the first shot is fired. in a 1v1 encounter, we will both be jockying for the most advantagious positions for what seems like hours; when we finally do get within guns-on range, the fight will most likely only last a few brief seconds. So for me the biggest rush is the set-up. One big caviat with the points made above is that this is primarily in WWI crates; things are undoubtedly different when flying WWII birds, as closure rates are much faster and the guns have greater range and more devitating hit potential. The tactics may be the same, but the sence of urgency may be increased, so it may create a need to get into the frey--or make the decision to run!--quicker. Yes, flying online is a huge rush!!! Even after 3+ years online, I still get butterflys in the gut, sweaty palms, severe body tremors, and weak knees as I near the inevitable encounter with my human foe! ------------------ Fly Well, Dub Visit the Wing Walkers IP: Logged |
