*explodes into a little mist of delight*

Please tell me it's 1:1 scale and topographically, if not historically correct!

we started this a while back and now Ren is working with it aswell to get it finished.. it's not historical, but has realistic altitude to the mountains, I've flown this terrain online once or twice and let me tell you, 1: It's stunning to look at, 2: It's damn hard to dogfight around.. you REALY have to watch your power, makes it very interesting fighting

This piece of real estate should be released fairly soon. It depends on when all the little niceties are added to it.

On some other boards I kept hearing how these graphics are dated and they dont compare with modern sims. I just wanted to show the world what a nice set of crayons and some imaginative modelling can do! We kick ass here!

Razer,
I'm thinking some Chinese terrain is in order. I really hate to ask(beg) people to make models for me but, if you would like a change, would you consider making a terrain mesh? I'm sure Nat's tutorial would be clear enough for you to start. Right now we have a few maps we need to finish up (Midway and Stalingrad especially) and we could use another very experienced modeller.

Awesome Diego,

About larger terrain, has anyone managed to break the 40mi x 40mi barrier yet?

Falck,
Thanks Larger terrain IS possible but, it takes forever to load. bryan did some early work on this waaaaay back when. I think he said we could go about 1.5 times larger. I figure that if people are groaning about downloading 70+megs, they wont be happy with 135!

True enough.

For the record, I wouldnt be groaning for anything less than 200MB

Sorry, Theres no way I can fit it in since I may have a temp job starting thrusday and with it and my work on another sim I just wont have time for SDOE stuff.

If I get a weekend off or something i might work on some planes but I plan to stay away from terrains.

Besides, from what Nat tails me the terrains would be easier in MAX and I wouldn't want to try it with AC3D.

Out of curiousity, are the (incredible) shadows in the second pic the result of dynamic lighting with the patch or are they painted on?

It's all paint Werner. We wont see any lighting like that in SDOE for a very long time.

In the second image it is incredible the sensation of the presence of the sun. Do I ask............. ¿will some day Be possible to see an incandescent sun in the skies of SDOE?

En la segunda imagen es increíble la sensación de la presencia del sol. Yo pregunto.............¿Será posible algún día ver un sol incandescente en los cielos de SDOE?

MAN!!!!!!! That's photo-realistic and nothing else. Il-2 beware!

That lighting...is it painted on, or is it really lighting??

Sem, read my post about 5 posts above. It's just paint. IL-2 doesn't even have that type of lighting.

A thought on larger terrain sizes

(BTW Diego - those pics are great - look forward to flying it)

Why not look at rectangular rather than square terrains.

You could do (excluding edge mirrored tiles)

20*80 = 160 tiles
30*60 = 180 tiles
30*80 = 240 tiles (1.5 X current terrain)
20*120 = 240 tiles
