I would think the term "classified" would immediately spring to mind.IP: Logged |

there are no los angeles schematics here but it's a good site all the same. i'll have a look for some plans. I've developed an obsession with subs, just finished reading blind mans bluff for the second time, amazing book, i am just amazed at the size of the typhoon class.IP: Logged |

Snake & Darthbob,Having spent 7 years on boats (both fast attack and boomers) I can tell you REAL cutaways take some digging, but they are out there. You can always purchase one of those models that has an interior. On a scale of 1 to 10 for realism, I'd put them at about a 2 Oh yeah, just so you know, I was a Electronic Tech / Reactor Operator during those years. Ask Tom Clancy where he digs up his information. He's only pissed off the pentagon about every other book with information he has that is supposed to be classified, but he shows how he got it from a publically available source. Darth, the BEST book I've ever read on nuke boats that gives you a real idea of what the technology was like (at that time) is "The Hunt for Red October". I remember reading it and being totally flabbergasted at how much and how accurate his descriptions of the equipment and what life on a sub was like. ------------------ ------------------------ Which end does the propeller thingy go on? So, Da Wing Waxer, do you glow in the dark? From what I understand, Clancy has big time contacts in your DOD. I haven't read anything in his books, the non-fiction ones, that isn't readily available in any Jane's book. Not that I'd know one way or the other. I've always been impressed with Clancy's non-fiction books. If you haven't already, read his Armoured Cav. The stories about the M1 Abrams in the Gulf War are bloody amazing. I just wish they weren't so damned expensive when they first come out.IP: Logged |

Thanks for the info. I'm actually trying to build some AC3D models of some subs for SDOE. Looking at 688(I) just makes me cry... Any all I want is detailed outlines of the boat to make a cool sub for SDOE. Sunray I brought up that story about the MIA1 stuck in the mud over at Combatsim years ago. Half the ppl laughed me outta the place.Snake [This message has been edited by Snake (edited 04-28-2001).] IP: Logged |

Perhaps this is some help: http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ship/ssn-688.htm No detailed plans exactly, but perhaps there´s something useful anyway. /Robert IP: Logged |

yeah, humt for red october is fantastic but blind mans bluff is basically the story of U.S spy sub missions after world war two, it is a history book in the form of a novel, great stuff. hey it's da jug head, nice to see you back.IP: Logged |
