If you've got a Voodoo Banshee, don't get this! I learned that the hard way. Werner ------------------ Visit Abbeville Field Today! IP: Logged |

Jeeves - ask your squaddies what it was like for that month or so when everyone else had to ready up before I even got into the lobby because my whole computer would lock up if I stayed in for more than anywhere between 15 seconds and 2 minutes, if I was lucky. Not fun. Also, offline all the menu buttons were messed and if I clicked back and forth between more than three or four, comp locked up. I coined a new term in that month - Reboot Crash or RBC. I'll never complain about CTDs again.Werner ------------------ Visit Abbeville Field Today! IP: Logged |

Rgr that.... I won't be touching that one...Will it get better when it isn't Beta? As far as the RBC-- I have had that from the beginning anyways....I start chatting in the lobby-- then everything locks up and the only way to fix it is to push the computer's on/off button... That's part of the reason I am online so rarely. ------------------ Brought to you by the campaign for a better Dauntless! Jeeves =FC= IP: Logged |

Really!? Wow Jeeves, that's no good at all. As much as I like computers, I can see why developers like to build for consoles. I've got a pretty stable system overall right now, but I'm nervous about upgrading over the summer. "You don't know what you've got 'till its gone"... WM, are you saying avoid DX8 or DX8.1? Cause I have a banshee and DX8 and when I did run SDOE I didn't have problems

Of course I can't recall 100% now if it was 8.1 or just 8, but the Banshee drivers at 3dfx were already in the "Legacy" section and I snapped up the latest ones just before nVidia took over in an attempt to fix things. I ended up having use one of those usermade removal macros and while I think I'm back to normal I can't be sure. I'm better than 90% anyways. If it worked for you, great! Must be something else on my system then, or perhaps the particular build. In any case though, my new attitude about these DXwhatevers is if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Thanks Himdog. Double post Spanky? I said I didn't know. One more thing, this may have changed with DX8.1 but DX8 had no way to uninstall it. There are user-made removal programs out there but sometimes the cure can be worse than the disease, or so I've read. Trying to install Dx7 or earlier overtop won't do it either, you get an error message. Werner ------------------ Visit Abbeville Field Today!
