Anyone have pictures or drawings of the instrument panel that shows the layout of the gauges? Also what the gauges looked like? (Of course, if some excellent , knowlegable person like, er, say, Yardstick, were to do this for me, I am sure everyone would be grateful.... Here some pics, I went back and looked in my book and it only shows pics of the gunsight, top of the panel, and bottom of the panel.
I can still scan them if needed.
I also just noticed that the front intake on the plane is wrong in game. It has the tri brace but the F model had a revised air scoop with the radiator, oil cooler, and carb combined into one intake. [This message has been edited by Razer (edited 04-17-2001).] IP: Logged |

Heya Snick...If you have a Barnes and Noble around you somewhere....look for a book titled "Cockpit"...it has some great panel shots with labels-- and I think the P-40 is there as well.....just take a pad of paper with you and write it all down....that's what I do because I am a married broke person ------------------ Brought to you by the campaign for a better Dauntless! I just saw something interesting on the local Boise news. There is a P-40 war museum located about 30 minutes from where I live. The guy that runs it let the makers of Pearl Harbor (the movie) use them in the movie. In fact one of the planes that Ben AFLAKKK!!! does all of his close ups in is one of those planes. The guy that runs it has 4 of the P-40's, don't know which but, my point is. I could go over there and get you guys some info on these birds if you want. Like gauges or measurements and what ever you need. The only catch is you have to wait till the 26th. He is re-doing the museum with the money he made off the movie and it is due to open then. 2 of his planes are completely restored and the other 2 are in the works. I don't know if he would let me near his planes but if I told him it's for research he may Let me know if you want me to do this, like I said it's about 30 minutes and I plan on going over to look either way P IP: Logged |

YES! YES! YES!One other thing to do is get him talking about the handling characteristics and "gotchas" when flying the bird. Also, if you could get your hand on turn rates, roll rates, and climb rates that would help. Sounds like I'm going to have to take a fishing / plane watching trip to Idaho one of these days. ------------------ ------------------------ Which end does the propeller thingy go on? Jug, Because you were good enough to respond I will do this for you. If you want me to ask those generalities I will, but if you have some specific questions you want me to ask this guy go ahead and toss them in and I'll ask them. But remember I will not be going until the 26th, anything sooner would be illegal (hey!!! )P Crap I forgot to tell ya, record numbers of salmon this year in Idaho. Simply put fishing would be great all along the Pacific coast. I may head North to a town called Riggins (ID) next week for some of that, will let you know. (No this is not off topic, it's realated, salmon swim in the Pacific, the war was fought in the Pacific, the P-40 was used in that war, see ) [This message has been edited by Psi (edited 05-16-2001).] IP: Logged |

Hey PSI - You want to know what to ask??? MUHUHAHAHAHAHA....... Go to this web site: http://members.nbci.com/butterfield/snickwerks/pbyspecs.htm This is a lot (but not all) of the information needed for a plane. The biggest part missing from this grid is performance (rate of climb, rate of roll, time to climb etc....) SnickIP: Logged |

Just the facts Snick, just the facts... I really don't want this guy to think I'm building a P-40 and I don't want to intrude on his time. If there are some questions that aren't say in Razers book that I could ask I would be more than willing. As far as the details of wing span, weight and stuff like that I'm sure that the book pretty much covers that. So Jug, I repeat, ask me how you would like me to ask him and I think this will suffice. Snick, get to work on that "L" P IP: Logged |

The "L" you say.... BTW - I am proud of that list!!!! MadMoe did a fantastic job of collecting most of that data!!! To the best of my knowledge, it is the most complete list of specification data for the PBY on the web.... Snick IP: Logged |

And it's a beautiful thing Snick, that's a butt load of data. I'm proud of you too I just don't want to do that much work that's all, (shhhhhh and yes the "L" got any idea when she'll be released. With the PP 6.1 I guess huh?P IP: Logged |

Hehehe thats the one I started with! A good place to start and it provided some of the items on the grid (see above post for URL). The operators and maintenance manuals for the PBY5A (courtesy of ZKPBY in Austrailia) provided many more. More from the book "PBY Catalina / The Flying Boat" and also from "Walk Around PBY". (Given the raw amount of data collected I am sure I missed someone, but these are the types of resources we used). As always an undying debt of grattitude goes out to Mad Moe of the =FC= who collected most of this data. Thanks Mad!Now it someone has this kind of info on the P59... IP: Logged |
