I GIVE UP!!

Here's the story of a 'hobby web-builder'.

I first started with a small website covering only SDOE stuff. But after buying other sims I tought 'well give it a try' and so I included several other 'chapters' to my site (B17II, EAW, etc.). So the site went bigger and bigggger. The reason for this was that I didn't want to refer to another site (like simfiles) for the downloads. So everything was packed into my site (quite a lot if you think of PP6!). But 'what the heck' I tought I've found a good web-provider and even for free!! That was www.stas.net. Mhhhmmm but from a couple of weeks to now on they seem to have major problems....and my account went down the drain
No problem I tought 'I switch to another one' ...there came www.crosswinds.net (another one who offers 'unlimited'). But what happened?? After only three weeks they deleted my account (no e-mail, no reason, no reply) .
No problem for the third time I tought 'I switch once again', this time to internetworx (once again 'unlimited'). But hey what's that 'unlimited' here is about 100MB and maxfilesize of 2MB....uuuhh once again ....death!
To write a long story short: I GIVE UP! I'm p"*ç"ed to the bones !!
So If you're looking for 'Bombing the Reich' or the 'Italian fake-package' or the 'Loader-screens' or the Manchester or whatever was on my site ...... FORGET IT!

End of the story:
I've burned a CD-ROM with my website onto it. So if you know a good provider that offers about 200MB space and unlimited (well at least 30MB) filesize and ftp access and everything for free (hey I'm married!) you're possibly my hero ...otherwise send me an e-mail if you need the stuff mentioned.

cheers from a
realy p*ç%&ed gt

PS: Forgive me the typos and my language please....

Hey GT,

Have you tried nbci? My site FS:SDOE Online is currently 175MB large on that server and it's had hardly any problems from day 1. All for free, ftp access and all.

Uhh, I'm not too sure about maximum file size allowed, the biggest file I have is about 7 or 8Mb. Try contacting nbci and asking them.

Good luck GT. I hope you find a new "home". You had such a great site. Hate to lose it. Thanks for you work.

Seems alot of internet stuff has been on the move or change lately. Me's get scared sometimes.

Harmon, I think I forgot to say thank you for your help with skins. Thanks, everything is fine now.

Ah well, sorry it couldn't work out gt, I hope you find another provider soon, would be a shame to see those add-ons disappear.

Riverrat, glad you got those skins sorted

I have been through most of the "free providers" and had it with their poor sevice and banners. I bit the bullet and paid.

I pay 7 bucks a month for 30mb and 20 bucks a year for the domain name and it is well worth the fast loading, no hassel site.

Boy, I know your problem! I had a nightmare trying to find a space provider who didn't banner you to hell, or delete you without warning....but ALL the small print says they reserve the right to wipe your site without warning or reason. And that isn't nice!

The days of free webspace for serious builders looks to have gone. I found problems with 50megs and their banners....with frames for the front page, quite often I would get a banner in EVERY FRAME. That didn't leave much room for content! I have found a solution though, thanks to Hawk. I just need to get the thing sorted out, and a bit more content into it.

p.s. Can you mail me about the BTR campaign? I didn't download it but I wanted to!

I was with XOOM before it became NBCi. I wonder if they will sell it off, or just dump it.... (I had more problems with NBCi than I did with Xoom.....)

Here is my "Secret Free Homepages" Link.

It lets you search through all the free homepage services, and you can specify exactly what you want out of a provider.

Webwasher keeps pop up ads from popping up at those pesky geocities, and other pop up riddled sites. Its free(for home use) and doesnt take up much resources.

Ok guy's thanks for the support here! (Received a couple of mails for help..once again thanks to everyone!)
Here's what I've done:
1. Despite of the nbci rumours...I've put everything into that.
2. For the large files..well I've to do some re-work on them, that means spliting them up into smaler once and put a description into the website.
3. Everything runs fine now..with Microsoft IE, but there seems to be some problems with Netscape (have NO idea what it could be )
4. Also for posting images...what a mess! I'll open an account on tripod for this one.

Last point:
I've decided (definitely) that I've to do a 'refresh' of my sites ..more color..more fancy looking stuff .. you know.

...so stay tuned!

Thanks for the big help here guy's! I realy love this comunity...you're still the greatest bunch of sim-fanatics that I've ever seen in the whole wide WWW

cheers

Great to hear gt!

I knew you'd choose nbci despite the rumours going 'round. I for one hope they won't pack in, I don't imagine finding another free server that can host 175MB

As for hosting pictures, you're better off as you said using another provider, however some will cancel your account if you use it ONLY for showing images on forums, etc.
www.photopoint.com is another alternative for storing images and showing them here or on other forums.

Great that you're back in business, keep those cool add-ons rolling out!

I just tried, Netscape does an illegal op as it tries to load your site

I tried to load my site also, it loads the page briefly and then illegal ops again, so it must be nbci I guess.

Ah well, I imagine there's not too many Netscape users left around anymore...
