I put this one up in place of the old Pappy Boyington skin. I hope this one doesn't give anyone problems; it works fine on my tnt2 card. The lines on wings are more symmetrical than they were before--I had made a mess of things hehe. It only displays correctly on the new F4u1a. If you'd like to give it a try, it's at http://26th-aircorps.org/ [This message has been edited by casualty26ac (edited 04-02-2001).] IP: Logged |

pretty much anyone can use the 512 textures. I know all Voodoo cards up to Voodoo3 can't handle 512 textures but Voodoo4 and 5 now use 512 textures. great scheme, lets bother bryan till he slips the 512 support in.
**update** i just looked at the scheme in all it's 512 glory and it looks amazing on the plane. great work! ------------------ Tony "Razer" Martin FS Hangar [This message has been edited by Razer (edited 04-02-2001).] IP: Logged |

Very nice! By the way, even if I own a V3000, I will go on to paint and use skins in 512*512. I noticed that a 512*512 skin reduced by the game in 256*256 looks much better than an original 256*256 skin bumped.------------------ Bonne chance et bon vol ! Arrowbase,Yes the game does resize to 256x256 in game si you can use them now, but when the support gets added and they don't resize to the smaller texture then you wont be able to enjoy them since the card doesn't support that size texture. But you can download the 512 textures and just resize them yourself if you like the scheme.

Jedi, I mailed it to you last night. I'll try to add a bit more detail before you release the final version. I wanted to see if it'd work for everyone, and see if the tail was going to be retextured before finishing it completely. I'm glad you all like it so far. I'm making a new 51 tif in 512 now and I'll try to do Razer's 38f like this too. Oh yeah, I did the Olander f4u birdcage like this too and will send when the wing changes are applied to it. I think it looks a bit better than this one. [This message has been edited by casualty26ac (edited 04-02-2001).] IP: Logged |

heres a pic of the F4U at the same angle in all it's 512 glory. Note the detail in the wings and in front of the cockpit and also the cowl. This is the things you get with the high res textures. Cas, I have some high detail insignias that I made for my other work. You can use the for your work but if you don't have photoshop you can't use the layers. I can save them on a white background and you can just cut them out. They are like 600x"something" and all you have to do is import them and scale them down. I have US markings like the ones ont he F4U and plain stars used by most early pac planes.
here's a pic with my stars and bars added. it would look better with some lite weathering added.

OMG, thanks for showing that Razer. I had no idea what it would look like on the plane at 512. Could you send me the insignias? I still agree with what Yardstick wrote in another thread though--that lighting would be more important--especially at a distance from the plane. Imagine the detail we could put in hehe. More time spent on each skin will be the rule but it'll be worth it. Thanks IP: Logged |

cas - does this mean I can stop sitting on the scheme(s) you sent me some time ago, and post them?btw, you say this only works on the new corsair.. do old corsair schemes work on the new corsair? Last but definitely not least, great scheme!! I love the attention to detail, wow! Werner ------------------ Visit Abbeville Field Today! IP: Logged |

Hi Werner, don't put that skin up--I had the lines on wings assymetrical--I'll send a much better version. However, that Olander skin won't be ready to put up until the same wings changes given the 1A are on the birdcage. I don't know when, but I'll send a better version--throw that one away hehe. I'll also try to redo the two Bunkerhill schemes I did for your site when the D gets the wing makeover. Yes the old skins work on the new corsair, but they miss little enhancements like the flap gaps I painted on this one. Thanks BTW, but I'll add more detail to the 1A once I see if the tail will be retextured. Razer, thanks for the insignias! IP: Logged |

The short answer on using the old skins on the new Corsair is...it depends. If you have a LARGE wing insignia, like the ones above, Razer's remap, which eliminated the "anomalies" in the flap and aileron mapping that I messed up when I first mapped the plane, cause the overall wing texture to move aft a little. This will put "big" roundels onto the aileron slightly, but other than that, the skin will look fine. Cas's skin takes the next step and puts the proper "flap gap" back in, and then he also fixed the inner wing map (although the same section of the skin is still used by both wings, so the old skins still work there as well). If you want to update your old skin to fit the new model, you need to move your wing insignia forward slightly, and, if you want to show the demarcation between the ailerons, flaps, and wing, use Cas's skin as a guide. But IMO the old skins still look OK on the new model. There won't be any significant changes to the -1D, -4B, or RAF Corsair body parts from the new -1A model, so any skin that works on the -1A should work on the others as well when I finish them.
