Well, with the cool new things bryan added to SDOE i think we need to figure out which props have fixed pitch, constant pitch, and manual pitch.this way we can use this new feature now and not put it off till later. Even if we don't do anything with the planes themselves we still need the info. So, whos got info on the current plane set and any plane in development (that you know is in development) I need info on the P-51B is you got it! ------------------ Tony "Razer" Martin FS Hangar IP: Logged |

Pretty sure anything with a Merlin and anything with a P&W 2800 had "constant-speed, controllable pitch" props. The 109s initially had "variable pitch" props with no governor (i.e. fixed pitch once set, but settable to any pitch). Not sure about later 109s. 190s had "kommandogerat" automatic system which electrically controlled pitch, RPM, and (I think) mixture--sorta like what we got now. Not sure about the more "esoteric" planes like the I-16 or Do-17, but I'd say the "standard" for the period would be the constant-speed, controllable type where the pilot sets RPM and manifold pressure, and the prop maintains the set RPM.

Spit 1a, hurricane and ju87 started off with (two blade?) two pitch ( fine and coarse ) propellors and moved to the DeHavilland 3 blade Hydromatic Constant speed props ( made in America under the Hamilton brand ) when they became available ( I don't know when I imagine 1941+)The Mosquito FB.VI had a 3 blade constant speed prop. The Bf109 and bf110 had full variable pitch controls Elric IP: Logged |

It's this easy: anything from 1939 or earlier had controllable-pitch (pilot sets pitch directly). Anything from then on has controlable-RPM (constant-speed). So... Hurry I & II - controlled pitch Spit 1 - same Me 109 some E's and all earlier - fixed Pretty much everything else is constant speed. Maury
