...or so my box said anyways. I have never seen a WWII warbird in the flesh, other than a pair of Lancasters that will never fly again (beautifully preserved museum pieces now), but I just found some footage at the new Unsere Luftwaffe site (www.luftarchiv.de), and it was really something. Seeing some of those videos, especially the Ju52/3m and "Horrido!" videos made me appreciate just how good our sim (and likely others too) is when it comes to modelling the "look" if not always the feel of WWII warbirds. Hats off to all the plane builders, and in particular Rendsburger for the Ju52 - Flying with the para loadout in SDOE is like watching the LuftArchiv Ju52 video, except in colour. Ok, enough warm fuzzies, back to your AC3Ds and OPS. Werner ------------------ Visit Abbeville Field Today! IP: Logged |

Werner - Seeing the "Joltin' Josie" make her moves overhead the other weekend made me feel the same way..... (I did some asking around and found out what plane was cruising that day....)IP: Logged |

I have Sat in the Josie... ;} A number of years ago, my roommate was friends with one of the restorer's out at chino.... We went on a tour, got to see the 38 he was in the middle of restoring.... which was in pieces, but some real nice views of the piping connectors in the leading edges and the engine mounts, and got to sit in the JJ.... I went back later and got some pics of the 109 they have out there too... not the spanish version with the merlin, but the real 109. Got behind the ropes and up real close... it rocked. He has since moved somwhere else...but that was just the best... I was standing between the booms and it is just amazing how big that plane is. I wanted to take her out then and there... ;} Glad she is still flying.... ;}

Snickers, I still can't believe how lucky you were. Like I said in your thread on the subject, seeing them is one thing, but seeing them, in private, out of the blue, is something totally different. Something very special. I hope I'll have an encounter like that someday.Werner ------------------ Visit Abbeville Field Today! IP: Logged |

There are only 8 P38's flying anymore according to the guy at Chino. So you are right Werner, it is definately something to remember. I have P51's go by all the time, I have seen the N2M go over (1 man flying wing). I believe there is a P40 that has gone over a couple of times and then 2 years ago I got to watch a PBY dump water (repeatedly) on a brush fire across the arroyo from the townhome I lived in at the time.... But none of these have been as impressive (well maybe the PBY) or as memorable as the JJ. You guys should definitely make plans to attend the EAA Fly-In at Oshkosh, Wisconsin some time. I can't begin to list all the amazing things I've seen there in the past. Imagine standing in the middle of a big field, looking to your left, looking to your right, seeing row upon row of airplanes that extend so far into the distance that you can't see the end of them.IP: Logged |

even though this discussion has moved off-topic, the comment about the realistic sim is pretty close. you have to admit they are have better phyics then any other game currently out. IP: Logged |

What I will freely admit that SDOE is the ONLY flight sim where I have become so immersed, that I lost touch with reality and for a very brief moment felt I was flying. (No snide remarks, my wike claims I lost all touch with reality long ago ).So yes, I would say that this is an ultra realistic flight simultor. Am I a pilot? No. Have I ever flown? Yes. When I was younger (we won't go there...) quite often as I was in the Civil Air Patrol. Snick =V67=

Yeh, Hoof Proudfoot, Flying Legends Sunday 1997. I was watching the P-38 do a barrel roll over the tarmac runway over the far side of the flightline, while most people were watching nine Mustangs taking off in threes from the grass. After the first barrel roll, Hoof seemed to try another but as the wings reached 90 degrees to the ground the Lightning seemed to mush and lost a lot of altitude and never had the height to pull up. He hit the tarmac with the right wing and burst into a ball of flame cutting through a number of parked light aircraft. The strange thing is the whole sequence of events, which in reality lasted about 3 seconds seemed to take about a minute. It seems to be true that things slow down in such circumstances. Not something I want to see again After the crash teams had finished, the remainder of the show was cancelled. However by way of tribute to there dead friend Stephen Grey and Ray Hanna respectively took the Bearcat and Hawker Fury and put on the most amazing display of synchronised aerobatics I have ever. Simply awesome, they seemed so close I thought we were going to have a collision. ------------------ Yardstick painted this IP: Logged |
