I know, I know... It should be posted in the download section... ;^)Spitfire Mk.1a - Groupe de Chasse II-7, Escadre Nice , Winter 1944/1945. Available at http://www.simfiles.com Basically, this skin was made to dress a Spitfire Mk IX, but it can be used on any other Spitfire model. If you want to use this skin on another Spifire model, be careful to rename the .tif file to the appropriate file name.

Note: This skin was made in 2 versions. 256 x 256 pixels size is the default skin resolution of FS:SDOE, but I encourage you to download the high resolution version of this skin (which is 512 x 512 pixels) if your hardware can support it. Usually, any good 3D device should support it. Enjoy. By the way, I would be glad if Yardstick would share his secrets of painter which kill, especially concerning the high resolution of all his releases. May I hope??? ------------------ Bonne chance et bon vol ! Arrowbase http://www.shemzone.com [This message has been edited by Arrowbase (edited 03-26-2001).] IP: Logged |

We made the French fly in the Spitfire Mk Ia in 1945! What had they done to deserve that? Well I won't even speculate although I suspect this was not a front line unit although the invasion stripes were not commonly used on aircraft in the training role - odd.Arrowbase my paint schemes are no higher resolution than anybody else's i.e. 256 textures. I think SDOE resizes to 256 anyway so even if you have a card supporting larger textures the game will resize these to 256. The key is to develop an eye for detail and get some experience at knowing which part of the texture to blend and which to highlight ------------------ Yardstick painted this IP: Logged |

I like the paint scheme (camo colours are really nice), but I'm sure it was applied on a IX or maybe a XVI. Hey, this unit had Mk.Vc's in 1943! (See the one on my site for example) I'm certain only one Mk.Ia was used by the Armée de l'air for evaluation purposes in early 1940. It was probably captured by the Germans in Orléans. Apart from this single examplary, and a few Mk.IIa used by sq. 340 "Ile-de-France" for training purposes in 1941, the models operationnaly used were Mk.V, Mk.IX or Mk.XVI, period.About texture sizes: since I worked on the P-40, I create my schemes in 512 * 512, and resize them down for release. In fact the reason I dressed a Spit 1a is that I wasn't able to get back the right name of the tif file for the Mk IX Test and test and test... Hey! I dressed the Mk IX when I started this painting a few months ago, why does she refuse now? Well, this one wants, Ok, let's go for this one. Ahem... You're right Yardstick, no invasion stripes on this training model. Well, all painters are not all specialists or accurate of history (blushing... shame on me, I want to paint without anything to know). Hopefully, as I already said, it can be applied on a Mk.IX, in this way, it's is absolutely historical. I've some other to paint (again FAFL) as the big job is done (template). Anyway, I'm glad to read this kind of criticism, it is very useful. In fact, I usually work with a 1024*1024 resolution, reducing it to 256*256 for the final release (I did it for the P47). The reason of the 512*512 version is it seems to look better than the 256*256, at least on my PC (Voodoo 3dfx based). Yardstick, for the next jobs, I will follow your advices. Pachy, merci pour les compliments.

Here's something I been working on; a 512x512 version of Olander's corsair. Razer told me to skin his 38f this way, but I didn't know you could just drop the 512 tif in the texture folder and have it display. I don't see any drop in fps. I've been using it, and you can see the rivots, and though this jpg is blurry, it looks good in game. It doesn't display all the detail, but it allows you to do more narrow panel lines and use more of them without it looking too busy. It's a more forward thinking way to do skins in case we get 512 support. IP: Logged |

Wonderful Cas! I agree, we need to have textures more detailed and more sharp. Yours are fantastic! When I look at my Photoshop files, which are sometimes more of 30 Mb, I'm getting a bit frustrated when I see the planes dressed. Too much work for almost nothing... Finally, I admire as much the painters as the 3D modellers. Yardstick and you are a part of those.------------------ Bonne chance et bon vol ! Arrowbase http://www.shemzone.com IP: Logged | |
