I got it flying! It is a real treat to fly this golden age warrior in formation. It does fly but needs a good FM man to work out the kinks, would anyone be interested in tweeking this baby?

Im not downsizing Hawks abilitys or anything but in the words of Sv (i think it was Sv) "Modeling is the funnest 10% of plane building." Thats tht best statement. I can slap a model together and texture it and have it in game in less than a day.... its the cockpit, FM, DM, placement, DOF's that take the REAL time and work. Im not saying its not a quality plane or anything.... just that if your going to put an accurate panel, nice interior, etc. etc. its gonna take alot more time. Again I am not downsizing hawks plane or his abilitys. Damn Typos [This message has been edited by Aladar (edited 03-26-2001).] IP: Logged |

I didn't mean it like that! I was trying to express that plane building isn't as easy as it looks! This comment ". I can slap a model together and texture it and have it in game in less than a day.... its the cockpit, FM, DM, placement, DOF's that take the REAL time and work" wasn't directed towards your plane Hawk, I think you do great work! Your GeeBee kicks ass! I am so sorry Hawk.[This message has been edited by Aladar (edited 03-26-2001).] IP: Logged |

Hawk, don't take Al the wrong way. So far all the planes i've posted about are the same as yours, a quick model, map it and get it in game. It's how i get the community wanting more. I think you did good getting it in game this fast. Now, stick a P-51 cockpit in it, add a few lower LOds and release a beta. then that will give you time to play with the important things. While getting a basic model in the game takes about a full (and hard) day's work, it takes about a hard month's work to get that far Hawk's planes are very complete with allot of attention to detail - and most important (IMO) they are well built with very few bugs or strange things. All the new planes are amazing... jgro's Sopwith Triplane is a real treat as well. Careful modeling and special attention to texture mapping pays off - I loved making the triplane skin. It's the little things that the screen shots do not show - the real love for modeling - this is in Hawk's planes - and so many others- the planes that other modelers open in OPS and appreciate - and the planes that have a great future, because they deserve to be worked on. Cockpits, flight modeling, damage modeling - these things are never done - the just progress and improve. But the "soul" of the aircraft is eternal and given by the creator - just because an aircraft is created quickly (that means working smart and fast) - does not mean it is not complete. Hawk's work here is an example of that... and I am still most proud of my Fokker DVIII... great artists can work with ease - they do not struggle. I hope I can stop suffering soon Great work Hawk! I am a big fan of these racers - they love to show off in the SDOE skies ------------------ -Sv Wings with Wires IP: Logged |

WT and I cranked out the Bleriot XI in about 2 and a half weeks. Maybe 3 weeks... Its taking a wee bit longer with the Taube because the model had to be rebuilt for framerate reasons...IP: Logged |

Errr, Its taking how long with the PBY???? I must not be a great artist. FWIW, though none of the planes have an FM that is "done" this is doubly true of the DM. We (TeamPBY) will plug along and yes, there WILL be a PBY in this sim....[This message has been edited by Snickers (edited 03-27-2001).] IP: Logged |

I am not realy pissed off at you Aladar, you are immature and haven't conqured diplomacy yet. I was put back by your statement and think you really did mean it the way it sounded. The GeeBeeR1 and the Pea Shooter are not the overnight sensations you may think they are. The PeaShooter took 3 days and nights of intense work. When I get into a project I like, time stands still. I am still learning AC3D and OPS and spend most of my time fixing mistakes and doing them over. The P26 is on it's fourth set of wings! I probably never will be a great modeler like some of the real artist that build for this sim but I am sure having a great time trying. I saw an old movie once with all these PeaShooters in formation and just had to make one. That first flight with the other P26s off my wing made it all worth while. Even though it was only a shell of a plane with more than enough work left to make it proper, I had to get it flying! So you see, Aladar, I could give a shit if you like my plane or not. I like it and I built it for me to enjoy and I am, I am. Hawk [This message has been edited by Hawk (edited 03-27-2001).] IP: Logged |

Hey Hawk, when you get the full hang of AC3d you and me need to team up just like me and WT. We could crank out some pretty crates pretty fast! When I get the hang of AC3d hell would have ben frozen over for so long it would melt back due to global warming! IP: Logged |
