You could say SDOE just wasted 60 bucks of mine. I read some reviews from people on how great the graphics are on CFS2. I bought it today tried it out with maxed out graphics and realism.
The terrain is nice I hate the flat and 3D cockpits. First flight I shot down 2 zeros.SDOE has raised the bar on all flight sims for me. With graphics and the physic models. Now I am happy just to get a plane in my sites in SDOE let alone shot one down. In SDOE I love the cockpits, terrain the clouds are great. Everything hangs together for a good complete package. Now I am a new person to SDOE. I use to think CFS1 was the best but something was missing. As a developer I started looking for the perfect building/modifying and playing game. Then I found this community and SDOE. After 2 years of age and a flight sim still wins with me hands down has to say alot about the orginal developers and the people who have carried on with updates and so on. Way to go guys. Thanks Bryan, thats great to hear from someone that actually bought another sim first then came here, this is after all, the sim that keeps on givin  It's the greatest shame though that the game was so badly slated fro mreviewers at the start, but on the other hand, maybye it's so good now because it that, we're all determined to make sure SDOE can keep up with even the most modern flight sims, and in my ipinion it does, theres not a sim oout there that makes SDOE look old, maybe others are better in some areas, but nothing really takes it's place Welcome to SDOE World Bryan ~Nat~

Well, if SDOE can stand up to the likes of CFS2 pre-patch, imho with the new Bavaria and Stalingrad Terrains, in combination with the WwW Patch, we'll be giving IL2 users a viable alternative to Oleg Maddox's forthcoming masterpiece.Werner ------------------

Well... IMO Il-2 will kick SDOEs butt in every aspect except one... The totally openness of SDOE.  But If I had a choice of Il-2s Easter front and SDOEs Eastern front, I would have to go with Il-2 right now.   Theres just so much it has that we dont!  IP: Logged |

Very true argon, I mean this sim is going to start showing its age when IL2 comes out, but hopefully it will have the same effect B17ii and CFS2 had on our community - quality of new additions improved so that we shared "features" with these newer-generation sims. Personally, like I said above, I think in terms of time invested vs impact, the new patch and the new terrains are going to be huge for this community.Werner ------------------

Dont get me wrong, I cant wait for SDOEs Eastern Front. When the patch is completed along with everything else thats ben started, I can safely say that this sim is the BEST all around. (It is even now) But that may be its down fall... Not enough detail in one particular area. But Im really looking foward to some totally new, complete terrains. That IMO is the only area where SDOE is strongly lacking. (That and the Italian and Japanese sides) On another note, Ive heard very good reviews from certain people here who have the pre beta of Il-2. Im a picky person and so are they so when they say they like the sim ALOT, then I have no doubt that I will aswell. IP: Logged |

I love the look of the IL2 terrain and models... but will it have the same quality physics and flight model? Will it be fun to just fly around? Will the damage modeling be as detailed as SDOE when it comes to physics? (I do think that SDOE needs much more in the way of the simple things like engine modeling and engine damage modeling).------------------

I'm a little lost... What is this IL2? And Eastern Front?I've been out of the game for a while since I was playing and blew out my monitor when I was changing resolutions, so I'm a little behind here! Are these addons for the game or something? IP: Logged |

i have played many flt sims but no other have i returned to playing this long after buyin it. most die out after a while but this game lives on in my heart
its got everthing the only games i have played this much are half-life and rowans flying corps gold

I agree with you on that one...I've been playing Microsoft's Flight Simulator series since Flight Simulator 2 back in 1984 on the Commodore 64, and ever since I've been into their Flight Simulator series... When I first heard of "Combat Flight Simulator" coming out, I nearly pee'd my pants... I've always wanted a MS shoot em up using the Flight Simulator engine! Of course Combat Flight Simulator 2 is horrible compared to the first one in my opinion.... The graphics got a little better in some instances, but little things like the prop from the virtual cockpit, just looks horrible compared to CFS... On the other hand, Fighter Squadron has always been in my mind as my favorite, and one of the best, WWII combat game... Just the feeling of being in the 3d cockpit, and having realistic physics, just makes me love this game more than anything! I wish they'd put out a sequel, with better graphics (like less fog as an option), and weather effects like rain, thunder, and more places to fly... I hope someday that someone can make a game just like this one. IP: Logged |

LuD - There is a game being developped in Russia right now that focuses on the eastern front of wwii. The number and quality of terrains, the number and quality of aircraft, the overall visual effects, the ground units detail, etc. etc. etc. is absolutely stunning. Go to www.ilyushin2.net and check out what all the hoopla's about at the forum. That isn't the official site, it's Siggi's fansite, btw.Argon - I agree, but there's something about the terrains that bother me. I mean we've seen lots of fantastic screenshots from terrains like Singapore, Stalingrad and Bavaria, but other than betas the closest we've come to something new and user made is the PTO Africa, but that isn't really "new" per se even. I guess I don't know enough about making terrains to understand why things like airfields and water aren't working properly, and why it's taking so long. I guess I'm concerned that it may be a looong time yet before we see another brand new, finished terrain. Werner ------------------

It looks great!But will it have the realistic physics and FEEL that Fighter Squadron has? The only way I see myself playing another WWII sim, is that it has a realistic feel to it... Like headbobbing and stuff.... IP: Logged |

According to the people Ive talked to, they say YES it have a very realistic feel to it. And the physics are there too! This game has the ability to have sea planes and tow planes so you can bet the physics engine is good. IP: Logged |
