Just a quick check in. Stalingrad has been taken off the back burner and had some fine snow sprinkled on.

Go here for the pix http://paintshed.users1.50megs.com/

I'm loving that "socked in" look but don't show that to Phoenix, he's in New Hampshire (just got 4 feet of snow)
Are you going to release it soon?

hey Psi

Well, soon.. maybe not.. the model is about right, no real changes needed there, Diego is finishing up the texture, then I have to build the city (yes, Stalingrad is having a full scale city for you to fly around) and then it's down to tail to add airfields and the little towns. We're looking at it being done hopefully for the summer, but the sooner the better

It looks great!

Hey I have a question, is there any way to do massive fires? That is to say the huge rolling black smoke you see coming from the cities and such after they've been bombed?

Maury,
If a volcano can be made to smoke, I cant see why billowing smoke ala Iraqi oil fields cant be added.

I love the screenshots!! Wow, those terrains you're working on are really impressive looking!

Are the airfields and watery areas 'working' yet?

Aladar,
Yep, new meshes can be imported all day long. Ask Nat how he does this and I'm sure you'll bow your head in all his glory. He takes a greyscale bmp and crams it into Max and meshes it out. That is the easy part. Then he some how slices it up into 400 tiles and restitches them by HAND. Thats the hard part.

WM,
Nope to both of your questions....for now. We just put it on the fire again and are anxious to get it going again. There is one feature that will just kill your senses when you drop a nice bomb onto a city block! Oh, did I say city block....I meant ugly, muddy textured city block.

Argon and Razor,
That snake is perfect for ground pounding...either in the PTO or in the snow! Its no sissy bird, bullets just love it!

Yep I can build new meshes all day long (which is about how long it takes lol) The Bavaria and Stalingrad terrain are completely 100% new and is just wicked to fly over, especialy with low cloud cover, but the terrain looks best in cloud or no cloads at all, just flying over the texture Diego did is something else.

Once you've got the knack of displacement mapping in Max (takes lots and lots of practice) then building a terrain is easy, the bad part is from my limited knowledge of Max3.1 I have to use Max4 Maga to finish the terrain off.

The easy part, but the worst part, is importing 400 tiles into OPS, it will take about 4 hours to do and you'll be worn out by the end of it all.

Water and Land... I can do.. but coastlines are a different matter, no go so far (same for rivers). I have some thoughts on these but nothing hard and fast yet, it's simply not an easy thing to do with Max

One needs to make OPS like batch files so you can import all the tiles in a single press of the button.
