Well with some help from Razer and Yardstick I brought Aladars Me 163 up to date. I incorporated the things Aladar has done and fixed/tweaked other things. The Cockpit has improved, new textures and shadow, Jagdfaust added back in and lots of other little things... 3 different skins have ben included (2 that Aladar did and 1 that Yardstick did) aswell as Aladars squadron for the Me 163. You must already have Plane Pack 6 for this to work, but you dont need the previous Me 163 as this overwrites many things and adds whole new things.

You can get it at: http://www.simfiles.com

Dont forget to read the readme file and shes now plane pack ready!

Enjoy!

That is good news!

The pocket rocket is a plane so seldom done in flight sims! It would have been a real shame if this work had been allowed to die!

And now, time to play intercept the B17 at 500 mph.....whoops overshot...

I quite enjoyed this little project. The Me163 is a funny looking plane, funnier looking than most even but it has a charm belied by the fact that it is likely to dissolve its pilot.

Anyway hope you enjoy the new cockpit textures (nothing really special just a few tweaks) and the new paint scheme - I may try another if I get the time.

Thanks for updating this. I will include it in the pack with the default skin only (I think I will do the same with the Ju88a4 as well) - this is in an effort to reduce the size of the download.

Argon,

I just downloaded the new zip and noticed that many of the reference pictures and redundant textures I removed have found their may back in. If you cull these it will reduce the zip by about 50%.

In its current form the Me163 is a bit of a texture hog for a very simple plane - it uses more texture memory than the Bf109K-4!

I know I removed the engine.tif texture by mistake. If this is resized from the current 256x256 to 64x64 it will free up about 150k of texture memory. A reasonable trade for such an insignificant and small part of the model.

Partsandpieces.tif is also very wastful, if rezized to 128x128 it will also free up another 150k.

If you want I can do this and send an update to you.

Yardstick, I got rid of many textures in the textures folder, but a few I had to keep because some hidden parts use them. Engine.tif for example is used by the Me 163 on the tail pipe and the hidden engine when the tail gets shot off.

All the textures that were referenced in the SM file I kept. Someone may want to update the cockpit some more in the future.

I would still resize the 2 tifs I refer to. If engine.tif is used for a damage texture go with 128x128 and sharpen it post resizing. 256 is massively wasteful.

Hey, does the Me 163 in SDOE emit a little trail of white smoke like it does in SWOTL! I thought that was a really cool - the first time I went up against them, I saw the smoke trail first and wondered, "What are those things?"

Why yes it does! It doesnt "puff" like SWOTL, and its always comming out of the rocket motor... but its there!

Yardstick, I see your point. Well at this point in time its just a wee bit too late to do so, but if the Me 163 ever gets updated again that will be on the list of things to do.

The Mitsubishi J8M1 Shusui is basicly a copy of the Me 163B constructed under liscence in Japan. It did not see operational service however and only 7 prototypes were built. One of them actually flew but crashed due to engine failure. (Killing the test pilot)

The Kyushu J7W1 Shiden was a pusher aircraft with tricycle gear and canards on the nose. It was supposed to be a high performance interceptor. Only two were ever built and one actually flew. An alpha of it was already made by someone a long time ago. (I still have it laying around somewhere on my hard drive)

Just so happens that I have made the skin for the J8M1.

You can pick up the image here:
http://www.wingwalkers.org/sdoeimages/Me163.zip

The zip contains only the Me163.tif file... I know nothing of creating new machines; I only paint, so you will have to fly the japanese colors under the german flag.

That being the case, would you be willing to do a paint job for the He 100 if I send you some pictures?

I could certainly give it a try! Shoot it on over via email and I'll see what I can come up with.

Casualty asked me not to include his skin in the zip. But the one he did do can be found in the Downloads section.

Hey Aladar! Psi, I asked Argon to pull it cause I didn't think it was entirely historically accurate. I worked on it some more; it's technically painted all right, so I just put at the 26th site. My searches must be pretty lame cause once I did this, I asked Bolillo about me163 sites and he found some great ones lol. Here's what I went by and couldn't find a profile. I used it mainly cause I liked the camo on wings.
