ahhh the venerable Blackburn Skua..

How to combine a dive bomber and a fighter in one plane....

Actually, you can't and the Skua wasn't a success. It was too slow to ctach bombers in a lot of cases, and had a limited value in fleet defence.

They did have some successes as bombers, but at a high cost. They were replaced when the Fleet Air Arm had something better!

There was also an attempt to turn the Skua into a turret fighter. The Blackburn Roc. It was even slower! The plan was to fly alongside a bomber and 'broadside' it with 4 .303's but the Roc couldn't fly fast enough! They got relegated to training roles pretty fast! The most useful employment for a Roc was as a guard post for FAA installations! Strip them out, park them up, and you have a defence installation......
