If you used a copy of the top turret from the lanc, I would try swapping it for the B17 turret. The top turret on the Lanc wasn't very aerodynamic, hence the fairing on the fuselage! The B17 turret is a little 'flatter'IP: Logged |

Heh, managed to borrow a friends computer...Anyways, the front turret on the Manc had a tendency to make the nose swing - ala rudder like - (I can't quite remember for sure of the direction) when the turret was turned. The Lanc had this problem, but it wasn't quite as noticable. Also, the lower turret was often removed as a field modification (loadout option?). IP: Logged |

been doing some research on this one, coz I didn't know they actually put them into production. Knew about the engine shortage thing, but they actually did see some action. Production started in May '42, but was stopped 4 months later when the factory was bombed. First operational squadron was 61 squadron, which used the type for 6 months and didn't lose a single plane! The planes were passed on to 115 squadron, who continued to operate Lanc II's. Last operation sorties were flown by 514 Squadron in September '44. A few lingered on in postwar service as flying testbeds, with the last example being scrapped in 1950. Overall, the hercules motored lancs lacked some of the performance of the Merlin variant, being slightly slower, reaching a slightly lower max altitude, and carrying 4000lbs less payload, but in the end, it was standardisation that killed it off. With Stirlings, Halifaxes and Merlin Lancs, the stores and support side was stretched. Fewer types made life easier! Oh yeah..motors...should be Hercules VI or XVI motors, as used on the later Beaufighter VI models. 1735 max HP And until Gustavo built this thing, I never even knew they saw action...live and learn! Thank you friends for their concepts. With regard to the ventral turret, in a principle I thought of that of the B17, it had also been but easy to use; but I believe that it would be too American in a British airplane; it would not be very in agreement aesthetically with the rest of the pattern. You that you/they say?. Here they can see it.Gracias amigos por sus conceptos. IP: Logged |

wakeup tailgunner: The engines were Hercules VI adapted for the Lanc, of 14 cylinders in double shatters and of 1650 HP; superiors in power to the Merlin of 1460 HP. This model also had but capacity of bombs that the standard.wakeup tailgunner: Los motores eran Hércules VI adaptados para el Lanc, de 14 cilindros en doble estrella y de 1650 HP; superiores en potencia a los Merlin de 1460 HP. Later Lancs got the Merlin XXIV 1620hp motors... Also, the Merlins were better high altitude performers... Which just goes to show....er...absolutely nothing! p.s. Having heard the noise of Bristol Mercury Radials up VERY close, I wish we could have noises like that! There were only 2, attached to the only flying Blenheim, but it was parked 20 yards away 'warming up' ..... ah sweeet memories... IP: Logged |

now that is what we need!A damn good pic of the turret itself! Looks like we need a new model there Gustavo. That turret is small and tucked in, and looks like it must have been remote operated. Bit like the chin turret on the B17. If you want, I would be happy to make you up a turret to the pic GT has posted. Should be a fairly quick model. You could then swap it in for the brit turret, keep the .303's from the original turret, and that would sort it out nicely! Let me know if that would help! p.s. I am tempted to go for a set of bulged bomb-bay doors too, and to build a little add onpiece to go behind it to blend in the turret. Let me know if you are up for it Gustavo, since this is your plane really! IP: Logged |
