Finally downloaded pp6, the MkIX Spit still has the same problem with the undercarriage not working once retracted, whats the fix for this? The Mustang in pp6 still has the slow rate of fire ...at most, about 100 rounds per min, is there a way of increasing ROF to sound something like automatic fire ? could this nuisance be a slow processor problem? ( I'm running a 266 mhz) although the smaller calibre weapon sounds are perfectly ok......I've tried loading these to the P51-D but to no avail, I still get the same 'bam - bam - bam sound ! about 1-2 shots per second. Has anyone else had this problem ?? IP: Logged |

it does work your just lowering it at to high a speed. The cool thing about the IX was that the OPP crew (before most of you guys time) put gear damage on the plane. You can't lower the gear below 210 or the gear will rip off. wait till you are below this before lowering it and make sure you raise it right after take off or you risk loosing it once you get above 210.IP: Logged |

Dean, another good one to practice landing in is the P51D - instead of ripping off completely the gear get bent under your plane (sooo cool) so it's a good indicator of if you did it right or not.Werner ------------------ Visit Abbeville Field Today! IP: Logged |

I've noticed the ROF for the mustang too. It may be the sounds only - I'll check the loadout for the actual ROF IP: Logged |

I've done some tests with the ROF and I noticed that the upper limit is 1200 with the next option being 600. I don't know about less than that, I think it maybe half of half all the way down. But there is only one option for the Mustang and thats 600.Dean I think your only hearing it go slow, if you press Ctrl-W you will see the ammo counter. Snake IP: Logged |

The Mustang's ROF does seem ridiculously low. If you compare it to MG131s on the 109G-6 for example the ROF seems about 25% of that of the 13mms. No wondered it can be so difficult to down something flying the P-51! And we were blaming the Brownings ------------------ Yardstick painted this IP: Logged |

The sound is off.I did the following. Picked a takeoff training mission. Hit alt-w to bring up the counters. 4 guns start at 270 rounds and 2 start at 400 rounds. I left the plane parked, pulled the trigger and started a stopwatch to see how long it would take. With an ideal rate of fire, the times to empty the clips should be 27 sec and 40 sec. Did an average after 3 runs 270 rounds- 28 seconds 400 rounds- 42 seconds This is close enough to call the rate of fire correct. ------------------ "Where'd he GO!?!?" thunk-thunk-thunk-zing-OUCH That answered my question IP: Logged |

Good scheme......I parked the P51-D & set my watch, firing all 6 guns together continually, it takes two & a half minutes to use up the ammunition. ( engine not running, F1 view ) What could be causing my machine to run this sound so slow? the sound is of only one gun , not multiple. Sounds like single shots from a revolver. Tried control - W , got no counter, whats the method to this? ( I tried ctrl- w from F1 view parked on runway ) no go . Love the new Mustang in pp6, wish I could get it to fire full auto instead of single shot :-) Maybe I could throw half- bricks at my opponents as in WWI air combat :-) IP: Logged |

Got the counter (alt-w ) how's this for a comparison : 270 rounds takes 1 minute 35 seconds 400 rounds takes 2 minutes 04 seconds.something definitely wrong !! IP: Logged |

Look in your media directory. There should be a file called "sounds.ppf." Look and see what sound file is assigned to "sndMG3." It should read "50calMG"Look in the loadout.ppf for the Mustang. It should be assigning "sndMG3" to the guns, and the guns should have "ROF 750" in their property lines. I'll bet either the guns are assigned to be using the cannon sound, or the "sndMG3" in the sounds.ppf is assigned to use one of the cannon.wav files. The sounds.ppf file you can change without effecting online compatibility. I don't think you can "safely" change the loadout.ppf file without causing a mismatch. You may have to unpack a parfile or two to get at these files tho... ------------------ --jedi-- IP: Logged |

This one's got me Dean. The next question is- why would your installation be goofed up and mine isn't? I've never had the P-51 fire that slow. Something, somewhere is throwing a monkey wrench into the works. Did the mustang fire this slow before you installed PP6?, Have you installed the beta's of any aircraft? This is a interesting problem. I'd be curious to know if PP6.1 fixes this for you. ------------------ "Where'd he GO!?!?" thunk-thunk-thunk-zing-OUCH That answered my question IP: Logged |

Yes I think I downloaded a P51-D , but aren't sure where I got it now, it had olive camo and a yellow spinner , that was when I first noticed the slow fire, it was not as a result of downloading PP6 , I have had the problem for quite a while, just thought PP6 might have resolved this :-)IP: Logged |

DeanPlease check your framerate as well (alt-p) if it is less than 20 (unlikely) then this will contribute to lower than expected gun rates. If you have a loadout.ppf file in your p51d folder remove it and see how the standard pp6.0 plane works.

Hello Spin :-) I checked the frame rate......it's only around 10 !! even less if I use the guns. This is using the P51-D in the Dover theatre. Is the frame rate able to be adjusted in any way? If I use the Mk5 Spitfire , same theatre, the frame rate improves to 13-14 . I'm using 640x480 res, 266 mhz processor, 32 meg Riva TNT video card and have 128 megs RAM. Some aircraft models certainly affect frame rates more than others.IP: Logged |

Dean, is this frame rate with only one plane in the air? I have the same cpu as you with a 16mb V3 and only 96 mb ram and I get 40-50 fps at 800X600 with only one plane.Yes, the reason your fire rate is so slow is that your system is overloaded. On mine, in a crowded mission, not only does the frame rate drop to single digits but some sounds cut out altogether. If you are flying just one plane and get 10 fps something is buggered. Has it always been this way? IP: Logged |

Dean,Double check your display settings, making sure that you are using Direct3d (and not software, Glide (or OpenGL - betav1.5.1 only)). Then reduce the detail options by removing clouds, gunsmoke, tracers and hit debris (all the fun stuff). Try further reducing your object and texture detail options - at least to less than halfway. Also, make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card, I found the latest reference drivers from Nvidia had a significant effect on my framerates for my Creative RIVATNT - but start with your manufacturers recommended updates. Then try playing with the performance options under the advanced tab of the display setting panel. At one time Nvidia ? had a video card overclocking utility (beta version - I have) that could speed your card up a bit - this worked pretty well for me as well. I've struggled with framerate issues since I got this game - and have survived. One day I hope to upgrade - but my wife tells me a new house has to come first . IP: Logged |

Hi Spin , thanks for the tips, I reduced the display settings to minimum, & this increased framerates with one plane ( FW190A8) , no clouds etc to between 20- 40 ......a major difference. Mustang gunsounds improved a whole lot as well!! I'll check out any driver updates, there's not a lot of satisfaction with the extra-low res , but aerial combat is sure a lot more lively :-)IP: Logged |
