Since there was a question about sighting of guns, I dug around and found this.

Saw a film once of this being done to a Starfighter's Vulcan cannon. Very cool.

Many of the former WWII bases close to me, particularly the fighter bases, still have an earth mound that used to be the butts where they syconised the guns.
