i have noticed when flying a few missions against the Ju88s that their tailgunners have been nailing me from ALMOST 2000 FEET!!!
This hardly seems like a realistic range for those guns or is it??

Didn't you know the Luftwaffe enlisted Olympic sharpshooters for their gunners? And gold medal winners at that too.

This is a known problem, but it makes you learn not to fly a straight level path towards a bomber.

Also you need to find the "blind spots" and attack from there. I'm going to be mean and not tell you where they are cuz half the fun is figuring things like this out.

That answered my question

2,000 feet is 666 yards. Yes, that's a long way for an aerial machine gun. By the way, 600 yards is no big deal for an 8mm round out of a rifle, but way too far for a aircraft gunner to expect hits. It's highly unlikely that a real gunner would have opened up at this distance unless he was new to combat. Who cares? It's a game.

"who cares, its a game."????

i thought this was supposed to be THE most realistic ww2 sim available. I want an accurate SIM not a GAME!! If i want a GAME ill go buy Crimson Skies hehe.

Now i know SDOE is not perfect, but couldnt something be done about this in the upcoming patch?? hope hope

Well i still love it and im not slamming it in any way. Was just curious for the range info to help w/ my own gunnery. I doubt i can hit ANYTHING from 2000 ft though.

thx for the replies

This has been discussed and complained about before. It's a pet peeve of mine too. I've been hit from over 2500 feet. The only "fix" I have come up with is to tone down the AI skill level sliders in the Options screen. They aren't as accurate that way. Unfortunately the pilot skill level also decreases so dogfights aren't as much a challenge.

I think one of the 'flaws' of the AI that's been brought up frequently is how accurate it is. I think somebody is working on a 'fix' which makes the guns 'wobble', thus throwing off the aim of the gunners.

But you are right, this should really be addressed in the patch, among other things.

yes this is something I'mn working on in my spare moments, not with any luck so far (the gun vanishes when I add the "wobble) Still, it is being looked into and I hope to have a reasonble fix sometime soon.
