I've owned FSOE for about a year. On several occasions, I almost bought that WWII Microsoft product. Saw it today at SAM'S for $42. How does it stack up to FSOE? Am I missing anything by sticking with FSOE?

Combat Flight Simulator II or I?? I isn't worth a penny, but II on the other hand... $42 is a little steep, I got it near when it came out for $40, but to answer your question you would be missing something. It has beautiful damage effects, a fun campaign, some very nice add-on planes, torpedos, and the best part is the carrier ops. Catching the 3 wire on the Lexington can be quite a thrill. Its worth the money. But don't just take my word for it..... http://cfs2.dogfighter.com Hope this helps.

graphics are better in CFS2 but, there is only H2H and team H2H in multiplay and it's always during the day. One of the coolest things about CFS2 is the night, dawn, and dusk graphics and you can't enjoy then with friends online.

If the game had co-op multiplay i would have left SDOE a long time ago. but with lack of real multiplayer options the game is only fun for a short period. it's pretty much a coaster now untill new MP options are released, but from what i hear, it will be CFS3 that will have this and CFS 2 is just sh*t out of luck.

Got CFS2 for Christmas. Great graphics, lousy flight characteristics. You don't fly the planes you drive them.

The dynamic campaigns are great. As long as you don't expect the planes too feel like the ones in SDOE, you'll enjoy the game.

CFS 2 doesn't have a dynamic campaign. You fly the same scripted missions each time. If you can't complete them with the required amount of kills or whatnot, then you have to fly them over.

It is a pretty game though. But it repetitive after a while.

Kinda like Britney Spears. Fun to look at but no talent whatsoever.

IMO CFS2 is the best all round WWII sim of the WWII sims released this year thus far. Hardly any bugs, beautiful graphics and at least it comes with a playable campaign. There are flight model fixes out there that do justice to the game. Id put my money on CFS2 over B-172 and BoB.

Been flying CFS and CFS2 since they were released here. CFS has crappy graphics and terrain compared to SDOE. CFS2 has excellent graphics, probably the best yet in a WW2 sim. The explosions, fire, and smoke are amazing but you need a top notch system to get the most out of it.However, SDOE is much better at modelling collisions and crashes in the CFS series you dont lose a wing or bend the prop you just blow up.

I dont find either one to be too much different from SDOE if you fly them at 100% realism. I think CFS2 has alot better flight models for the most part than CFS1.

Now addressing Razers concerns about MP missions and time of day. You might be surprised to learn that 3rd party developers have really done a great job in this respect.

There is an add on clock guage available to add to your panel that will let you set time of day in MP, its available from the RAF662 website. the host sets the clock in the game, then all return to ready room and rejoin, when they come back in they see the change. not sure if the host does or not.

As far as multi missions go, an add on program called Brunhost will allow teams to start at different airfields for bombrun type scenarios/missions. It also allows for placement of explodable targets that all can see destroyed. Ground starts are also possible using this as well as a no radar no tracking option.

There are MANY people playing CFS on the zone that are using these programs to set up mission type games. also, cfsipgames.com is a good meeting place for people who prefer these types of games.

CFS2 might have been the perfect sim if they had incorperated SDOEs multiplayer set up, but apparently M$ doesnt want any competition for it pay for play Fighter Ace 2.

But with these and some other user made add ons it has turned out to be a decent sim.

Only had SDOE for a week, and i absolutely love it!!

Ok...if I only fly at home..not online...and I don't care about campaigns..earning points and all that stuff...just flying around and blowing up stuff....on those grounds...how does it compare with fsoe? Will I get anything if I buy it that I don't get with fsoe?

Ummm... eh... Just flying?

Well flying up high in CFS2 is just plain beautiful. But the actual flying experience could be alot better in terms of flight realism. Flying up high is SDOE sucks... But most of us dont fly high. But flying in SDOE just feels more real, smooth and fluid. If you can afford CFS2 I would get it. Both SDOE and CFS2 are great sims.

I happen to like SDOE better because the ideas are endless with SDOE and this is a sim tweakers heven. (In what other sim can you get top quality addons for free at a regular basis? Im sorry but a majority of the user made CFS2 planes and other addons just dont cut it at all in terms of quality) The dogfights in SDOE are quite fun. But I also enjoy the dogfights in CFS2. Both have their good and bad points. In SDOE the dogfighting is fun and can get quite hectic. In CFS2 the dogfights look like that of gun camera footage when you shoot up an aircraft. (Awesome looking!) But the stock flight model just doesnt feel all that great.

Also the majority of SDOE is set in the WWII European theater. (People are trying hard to change that tho. We have some great pacific addons) CFS2 is all pacific (Unless you go get the European addons as you know) Carrier landings are better in CFS2 but they are possible in SDOE. CFS2 is more visual in some/most aspects, but planes in SDOE (Especially the WWI ones) are just beautiful and have not ben matched by any other sim to date.

It all depends on you really. If you like tweaking sims, SDOE is for you. If you just want to jump into a dogfight and not worry, I would go get CFS2. SDOE is more of a builders sim while CFS2 is more of a visual sim. If the physics engine of SDOE were incorporated into CFS2s visual engine, I would be in sim heven. (Hint hint Bryan )

This is IMO however.
