First, I made a bunch of ribbons (12). I placed them in a specially created folder :
Media\Gui\Art\Scores\Ribbons\France\CampagneNN

Next, I made a mission. I placed it in a special folder.
Media\Missions\CampagneNN

It is a pure dogfight mission. A group of 4 Yaks encounters a section of 4 Bf109G6.

Both are in flight at the start of the mission.

I set each of te 2 flight as "mission objectives", with a 60% setting.

I set the ribbon as :
Germany/Dover/RIBBON#01.BMP for the Jerries
France/CampagneNN/RIBBON#01.BMP for the Froggies

Now, I tested the thing... No matter how hard I try I cannot get the ribbon. I get the "Mission won message", but no ribbon is displayed. I tried changing the French ribbon path to :
strFrance/CampagneNN/RIBBON#01.BMP
... To no avail.

I also tried to swith side. The german pilot did not get the ribbon either. I tried to change the number of planes to make sure both sides could not win simulatneaously... Did not work.

I landed, I quitted without landing, no change...

What am I doing wrong ?

I think I know....there is a score.ppf in the Media\GUI folder....and there is one other one....you need to add the ribbons into the text of this file in order for the game to reference them. Check and make sure....I don't think the .ppf is in par6...I think it still is just in the Media\GUI folder-- you will see all the other country medals and ribbons listed there...just add your references in there...if that doesn't work-- I will have to dig around- it has been a year since I have worked on the Nations stuff. Add that to the fact that I am at work without the files in front of me-- and I am not 100% sure of it all--- I can check later tonight when I get home.

AGAS or Luny did this work for Australia and France respectively, so they may be able to help you before I get home-- guys? Where are you?

Guess we're at work too! We're not on holidays like Tym

Seriously, I remember looking at the score.ppf yesterday for Tym, and I don't recall seeing mine and yours ribbons... Maybe that's just why they never awarded, oops!

Hmmm...

Good to hear from you too Pachy...I am thinking-- maybe that score.ppf is only for medals? Man I wish I had it in front of me....I will take a look at it when I get home-- if there are ribbons there and the French ones aren't there-- that was an error on our part before release and should be fixed immediately...as far as NN ribbons, it is only a matter of figuring out what was wrong in the first place and I can help him-- I won't add them to the Nations pack as they haven't been tested-- but we should be able to get it all working for you all-- just gotta be able to look at it!! Patience my friends

Werner could help us out with all this-- but he probably won't be online until much later....the ribbons have to go somewhere...I just don't remember where....I promise to get this all rectified and sorted out as soon as I can...

All your answers seem to relate only to medals not to ribbons...

Thinking about it I'm beginning to wonder... I thought that medals related to a pilot, ie the pilot recieves them depending on how his carreer is going on.

While the ribbons were recieved for winning missions. Does it mean you have to land ?

Am I right ?

NN...

Again-- not having the files in front of me- I can't be sure-- I knew my way around all those files pretty well, but that was a year ago. When I get home....another few hours....I will delve right into it and see what I can find....I am not sure where the ribbons are referenced so for now-- all I can say is I'll work on it and get you the answers

Thanks Jeeves.

In fact, I am preparing a bunch of "home-made" ribbons, one for each mission in the campaign. Is it a standard way to do ?

I based them on French (sweeps, interception) and Russian (escort, interdiction) ribbons and I added a normandie-Niemen insignia on them to remind of the campaign.

Tym,

You're correct there, the ribbons go for played and won missions (ie: reaching the aims set in the mission editor), and medals only appear when you go above a certain score (call that acts of bravour if you wish) in some missions.

Medals are in the score.ppf ok, and there are no ribbons in there here too.

I didnt unbig the data6.par file but thats prolly the best way to find out the exact path.

.par files are compressed but they can be overridden by other files (or files can be added to them) if you use the paths declared in .ppf files. Hope Im clear...
Ask if you want it in froggie

Sorry guys, been at work....

Now lets see....

This is my understanding from memory...so sorry if I state the obvious, repeat stuff or it turns out to be utter bull sh...t

ribbons are placed here (eg France):

Media\Gui\Art\Scores\Ribbons\France\Africa or Dover or Rhineland etc etc (ie the terrain name)

Now I believe (but not sure) that a campaign name can be placed at the end ie CampagneNN.

If this is the case you probably have to add this name to the Strintable.ppf . Open it up and got to where you see:

strDover "Dover"
strAfrica "Africa"
strRhineland "Rhineland"

Add the following line:

strCampagneNN "CampagneNN"

Don't forget to also add the ribbon in the mission editor.

Hope it helps....it's been a while.......

Cheers,

AGAS 5

I unbigged the data6 and there are no ppf files in which the ribbons are declared.

The path to ribbons is as Agas said, or almost, and its also a mistake in the path you give in your first post/

The gui folder is in the sdoe folder not the media folder:
copied link from the data6 file:

X:\SDOE\Gui\Art\Scores\Ribbons\France\Dover\RIBBON#05.BMP.

Also every terrain has a max number of ten ribbons, and im not sure more are allowed.

Luny....

Not saying your wrong here - but I checked mine and it's

Fighter Squadron/Media/Gui ....etc

and everything works just fine too ....

You may have point their about the max number of ribbons.....NN Tym, try replacing one of the orignals (don't forget to alter the path to it in mission editor) and let us know if it works.

Cheers,

AGAS 5

I think I'm gonna give up soon...

Don't get me wrong, I am not such a lazy guy. I hex-edited files in RB3D and EAW to include French pilots and squadrons. I made Delphi3 utilities for those sims. I have searched in a ton of books to gather all the information... But I there got results.

I just wanted to make some "training" mission for my fellow pilots, preparing them for the incoming IL-2 simulation. As the beta test is about to begin, I think my "work" is useless...

If someone wants my half-done missions and my artwork I'll send it to him. I thank everyone for the help given. I can also make some art for Pachy if he wants to. As for me I'm burnt out.

I tried what you all suggested and I get no ribbon. I tried to switch side, this time I had a DTD... I'm fed up. I spent three days on a very basic mission and all I got is DTD and no ribbon.

I found no information on this topic in the game booklet. There's nothing on that on the Net as far as I know. I just found a (French) site with a tutorial, but nothing there on the ribbon topic. There is no help file for the mission builder.

Did anyone make a mission with an installation such as mine : Patch 1.5, PlanePack6.0 and Nations 2.0 ? If so just tell me if you get ribbons...

Pachy was kind enough to send me a mission involving Yaks, Pe2 and FW190. This mission just DTD everytime for me. I seem to remember that he sent it to me some times ago... I don't recall such DTD. Maybe there is a problem with the Nation 2.0 pack... I also had the Contest pack 1.1 in those days.

I may be wrong, but I begin to suspect that everyone is so busy working on new models that they just don't build missions that they play offline, with the new "online" standard... Am I wrong ?

I think installing the contest pack after PP6 is a big no-no, you probably erased the Yak and possibly the Pe-2 by earlier, buggier versions.

As for the ribbons I played the same mission (it will be released soon) and I get the french rhineland ribbon #1 awarded EACH TIME. Now, about adding special campaigns ribbons I dunno, did you try AGAS' idea?

I had no CTDs until you start mentioning them - talk about bad karma

I DID NOT install the Contest Pack. I just installed the patch 1.5, then the PlanePack 6.0 and the Nation pack 2.0...

I get no ribbon, even if I use a "stock" ribbon, be it French, GB US... No go.

Not yet... I tried everything else... I got the same result when the mission was in the Rhineland forlder still...

In fact, I get no ribbon whatever is the mission "stock" or homemade...

OK-- I finally got BigMunger and unbigged par6-- and it is exactly as AGAS says-- Lunt- you said that your French ribbons didn't show up? Maybe that is why-- make sure your GUI is in your Media folder.

I made a mission with a French Cane and a Stuka-- show down the Stuka and got a mission win message--exited and received a French ribbon...so it works. Maybe if you send your files to one of us, we can get it sorted out for you NN....there must be some reason why the new ribbons aren't showing up--but your regular French and German ones should definitely be showing up-- are you sure your GUI folder is in the Media folder? Not being able to see your files makesit hard to do a fix.

And as far as people not caring about offline missions-- you are dead wrong....there are many of us who are crappy modelers who do missions instead....I can't make promises-- but if you give me ideas of what kind of missions you want done and what planes you want in them-- I can probably whip up a small set or a campaign for you....I can usually do them pretty quickly-- and if you are doing them for play with real people instead of AI-- that even takes less time as I don't have to test to make sure the AI does what it is supposed to....e-mail me and let me know by either my profile or the letter icon next to my name above
