A freind of mine has a V5 in his AMD 700
128 Ram we tried SDOE and Red Baron on it.
Red Baron show a FR increase from 60 with V3
to 75 with V5 (eh) SDOE showed very little improvment on FPS and the only thing I noticed was the "rippling effect" of the dover cliffs and such were almost all gone
but other than that no big change. When I got home I started SDOE and saw that my game looks as good as his game so i'm not gonna buy a V5. Im gonna wait and see what NVIDIA
does in the future. But if you still want it I saw it @ pricewatch.com for $135 + $9.50 shipping VV

I think there are 2 things you have to keep in mind here when relating to SDOE:

1. When the onscreen image gets as good as it possibly can get, upgrading your graphics card wont make it look better

2. SDOE on a modern graphices card isn't running slowly becuase the g/card aint good enough, but more often because the CPU/m-board combo isn't fast enough, more people have seen greater differences from CPU upgrades than from g/card upgrades and I'm sure thats because graphic cards are so much more advanced now than when SDOE was released that they deal pretty damn well with the graphic side.

For instance, I run a V3 on an AMD K62-533mhz with 196mb Ram and a 10,000rpm high speed HD, and you know what, I don't ever get above 20fps with more than 2 aircraft in a mission, yet other people with the same setup only a better CPU have treble my FPS... oh, and yes, this does piss me off lol

Yep its totally the CPU,

Right now I'm running a p2 333 with 192 megs of ram with a 16 Meg banshee.

I tried a Geforce 2 mx and the frame rate didn't change by much at all. I would have to look at my old posts to see.

The difference between those 2 cards is insane.

Defenitly replace the CPU if at all possible if you want Better FPS in SDOE.

Specialy if you already have a V3 or geforce 1 or better.
