If you are talking about the dafault A-4 - yes I agree. If you're talking about the A-3, A-8 and D-9 - I disagree.

Well...mosey on up there to Yardstick's "marketing drip" topic and look at the NEW 190A3. I wouldn't call a 190 "beautiful" in any sense of the word, but, like the Phantom jet, "sleek and deadly-looking" definitely applies.

3D modeling tip for anyone wanting to take up the challenge (I'll do it SOMEday, after my "desk is clear"):

Simply replace the existing 8-sided forward fuselage cylinder shape of the 190 with a 16-sided one. You get a much better "circular" appearance this way, especially when smoothed. With the new engine fan that's coming, you don't even need to re-work the cowling. Not really a major project at all, although you would need to re-texture map the fuselage sides.

This is a limitation of all the "8-sided" cylinder fuselages in the game--they look too square up close. Going to 12 makes a BIG difference in the appearance at the cost of only 8 polys.

I wouldn't go as far as saying that any of the WWII birds are ugly. It's just I don't find FW 190 beautiful, it is a very nice to look at plane though. Especially when your know about the puch it packs and all the innovations it carried. It has an aura of efficient brutality to it

BTW the old 5 or 7 series BMW have something from the 190 looks in them. Am I alone in this impression?

RE: "Going to 12 makes a BIG difference in the appearance at the cost of only 8 polys."

Actually...

Depending on the nunber of cross-sections... it's obviously much more than "8".
