I have been trying for quite a while now to get Nations 2.0. It seems that every site just points to Simfiles. I click on the "Download" link at Simfiles and then I just spin for about 20 seconds. Then I get a 404 not found message Also I get emails from time to time saying that people can not download the WWI pack at simefiles - for the same reasons I can't get the Nations 2.0. I just wanted to point this out. Also, let me know if Nations is hosted anywhere else Thanks! ------------------ -Sv Wings with Wires IP: Logged |

I tried Werners site, it points to simfiles aswell (unless it's been changed) but this is a major problem that we've all complained about for a very long time, Simfiles idea is great, execution though is sadly crap, even if you get it to download don't expect more than 2kbs you might get more if you're on cable or the likes, but on a modem 2kb if you're very lucky.I doubt this is going to change, and I don't know how the site is run, but it could be an idea for whoever works on the site upkeep to look for another reliable server. Works for me, I can download NV2 from simfiles at 50ko/s. I remember having problems with my download manager on this site, so maybe try deactivating yours. Some "too clever" sites lets you beleive you're going to download a zip but the link in facts returns a webpage, that displays (of course) an ad and finally triggers the download. I use DAP and it usually handles this, but not always and in particular not at Werner's site.[This message has been edited by Pachy (edited 02-09-2001).] IP: Logged |

Never a problem for me at simfilesMaybe you guys have a bad route to it. I got nations 2 off it no prob at 25k or so and it sends pp6 at the same speed so I figure it would continue. I'll let it finish just to confirm.

There is actually a few problems I have with simfiles and older browserss in which I am going to address soon. However I have moved some of the more popular downloads to a location that shouldn't be effected by this bug/limitation. I also think you will see at all my sites the 404 page suggests you email me about the problem. I have replied to every email I have recieved from any error within the day so it shocks me to see this post. If you email me I can give you the direct ftp address as well to try to solve your problems.------------------ William Gall http://www.simfiles.com IP: Logged |

Great Dogma, this is a very important site for FS so any and all improvements are good news, I have to admit that I haven't downloaded from there in an age because of these problems and I'm using IE5.5, but I'll have to go check out what I'm missing now IP: Logged |

Go easy guys... AF, hosted by Dogma doesn't generate enough revenue for Dogma to cover the bandwidth costs for it (no, I'm not going subscriber ) so its afloat out of his pocket. Same goes for simfiles. I can't speak for simfiles, but I do know a fair bit about the stats next door at AF, so let me fill you in on a couple details. I don't have the funds to support it myself (remember I started on xoom.com?) so if Dogma decides to pull the plug it's curtains. Same goes for simfiles, except he also runs it. I'm not browbeating, I have been assured by Dogma that he isn't going to change our arrangement (or simfiles) in the forseeable future, but please be aware that those "clever" little things are there because you're using donated space (if you stop to read it...) not because either of us are trying to make your lives difficult. Consider also that no free provider will pick me up(or at least keep me for more than a week), file and bandwidth wise AF is just too big now. Now imagine simfiles. ha! Never in a million years. Be kind, if you have gripes, email Dogma. btw this isn't a brown-nosing session either, I'm trying to point out a few facts that don't seem to be coming to light. Like I said, go easy and email the man if you have issues with simfiles. Werner ------------------ Visit Abbeville Field Today! IP: Logged |

d0gmA,I did not mean anything negative by my post... I really thought maybe the issue was even on my side. But I do think that critical files like Nations should be posted on at least two sites, not just one. Linking to Simfiles is great - it is a great value to have one place with all the files (that is where I went first), but at least the Nations site should host the Nations download (if it can.) I can host files if there is no where else to turn to. Anyway d0gmA, please accept my apologies - I admit that I did not read anything at Simfiles, I just came here to see where else I might find Nations. (BTW, I am using IE 5.00.2614.3500 on Win 98 Second edition.) Thanks d0gmA ------------------ -Sv Wings with Wires IP: Logged |

Sv - I understand it would seem most logical to have Nations linked to directly from Abbeville Field, but look at it from the perspective of Dogma - one server, duplicate copy of a high-demand 18Mb file? Nope. I have said in the past that beyond the one month or so statute of limitation (during which anyone who has worked on nations, including guys like TS or gterl with their big sites can host it) anyone can host the files. Why don't you give Razer a ring and see if he'll mirror it? Werner ------------------ Visit Abbeville Field Today! IP: Logged |

I forgot to address Nats post in my last message. I am sorry to say Nat that I don't honor the money back guarantee to people living in the UK using AOL so you are SOL. ------------------ William Gall http://www.simfiles.com IP: Logged |
