Hey, guys..I've not been playing SDOE like I used to..been hooked on CFS2 for the last couple of weeks. Anywayz, I was wondering if one of you artists could make a P-51D skin for SDOE just like the scheme the P-51s from the movie Empire of the Sun(GREAT movie!!!) I think those are some of the prettiest mustangs I've seen to date. Thanx in advance..lata!!

Any idea which squadron it was? I've already got quite a few Pacific/CBI squadrons done or in the works. I did a 20th AAF mustang pack, you might want to check in there (available at simfiles).

My Air Commando Groups (10th AAF) are almost finished. I'm working on some 5th, 14th, and 7th AAF skins too.

I'd rent the movie but my vcr is dead. If you can find any info./pics. I can usually crank a skin out pretty quickly

No for sure they were mustangs.. i remeber him jumping up and down the roof as they were strafing the airfield calling them cadilacs of the sky.. my absolute fav bit of the movie.. I've read the book also and its pretty damn good.
But for the record - they were mustangs, could'nt be p-40's.

thanks for the response guys, the mustangs were from the 118th Tactical Recon Squadron based in China. Yeah, I still think that is some of the best combat footage this side of Battle of Britain. My favorite part is when the boy Jim is on the roof and that sweet 51 does a flyby with he's wings rockin and the canopy open with the pilot waving. like I said before..great movie!!! should check it out if you haven't seen it.

I saw that the other month on Stars. There's already a scheme close to those 51s at Abbeville field by Zoycite(23rdFG scheme). The plane that flys so close to the boy was called "Tug Boat" but I read at mustangs.com that it had that painted on for the film--not certain though.

Well, my memory failed me.

I checked and they infact were mustangs. I don't feel to bad though, I haven't seen the movie since it came out in 1987, and then only once. So that was 14 years ago!! WOW!

I think I might rent it though. It's a really good movie!

That entire scene goes so fast anyway hehe--seems like they had some orange stripes on them with the lightening bolts like the pic above.

"Missy Wong from Hong Kong"

If I remember rightly the Old Flying Machine Company did the flying sequences (the Hannas) and it was filmed in London in the then derelict docks.
