That looks a lot like the Bessie level we had running a few years ago.I set up a mission of 100 Bessie's (no terrain) and let them go at it. It's a hell of a lot of fun to watch all those aircraft take each other out. IP: Logged |

There are 100 planes in the air in this mission: 50 x Bf109E4 and 50 x Spitfire Mk1a. It CTD after 5 mins both times I ran it, but long enough to jump into slew mode and take loads of pictures. It was flyable too . The system is an Athlon 1GHz, 386Mb, GeForce2 32Mb. IP: Logged |

It CTD cause theres a crash bug in the Spit 1's engine. it happens with 2 planes in the air. ------------------ Tony "Razer" Martin FS Hangar [This message has been edited by Razer (edited 02-07-2001).] IP: Logged |

Pity you could blow it up to poster size and print it. You could sell tons of 'em just like the guy that painted the Spitfire print. The sort of tan one with the Spit flying towards you. IP: Logged |

Do you mean "Spitfire" by Barrie A. F. Clark (Spitfire Vb of 243 squadron, code SN M)? I have that print on my wall .IP: Logged |

Wait a second - do you mean to tell me this was done with SDOE? I thought there was an upward limit (in the 'teens) of how many planes there could be in the air...IP: Logged |

FGYou are only limited by your CPU in SDOE. It is often necessary to edit missions by hand to get those numbers of aircraft however. It does look cool! PR=FC= IP: Logged |

Flash, it could be. I don't know what it's called. My brother has it. I prefer tanks myself. Cavalry, don't you know.IP: Logged |

FPS of 9 isn't that bad when you consider alot of us were happily playing SDOE on P200's with 6 aircraft and those kind of FPS rates!IP: Logged |

Well I hope sub-atomic particles chambers don't CTD when two particles collide IP: Logged |

I think Mighty and MH can both atest to this. From what I read, Open plane itself poses no upper limits on the number of poygons per plane, or planes per game. The limiting factor is the CPU, RAM, and video card. The CPu because it has to handle the AI, physics, collision detection, etc. The video card because of the texture storing / polygon setup capability, and RAM for many reasons. The upside to this is that there (theoretically)isn't a limit imposed by open plane as to how far SDOE can go. As computer power is increased you can add more detailed planes, textures, and numbers of planes to the game. (It would require a complete remapping for more detailed textures because you can't increase them past 256X256, you just have to use more textures for the plane) What limits are imposed are created by the game programming for the rendering engine (this affects looks more than anything else, i.e. a 256X256 texture), terrain size, AI "intelligence", and some of the features of open plane- the characteristices of water being an example. I may have missed something, but this is why SDOE can continue to keep pace with new games- especially when the patch is released. IP: Logged |

Jetlag-Why not post these pics to flightsim, CFS, and dogfighter.com Or send them to me and I'll crop out the framerates, shrink them and post them.
