A while back Michael Harrison started work on a new patch for SDOE- mostly to fix the bad on-line bugs. We even tested on-line with him and verified that it worked! But then came the R/C sim and more OPenPlane updates. He had to work these into the patch... but this is good news in a way, there are optimisiaztions that increase frame rates and some additional functionality. However, there are two issues that I am aware of. First, there is a D3D issue that causes very bad graphics issue, you can hardly see at all. Second, I think there is debug code left in right now that hurts the frame rates. Also I think I remember that a few of the new user-made aircraft had troubles with this patch Other than that, it works great! You can ineed fly with it on-line with anyone else who has it, and no more CTD!!!! I am not sure if the damage bug is fixed though... maybe... I hope some people who know more than me answer. Also I think there is a readme with it that explains the updates ------------------ -Sv =FC= WWI in SDOE! IP: Logged |

Despite the problems Sv listed, it was somewhat of an improvement-- smoke from damaged and destroyed ground units and buildings lasted longer, etc....but the one reason I stopped using it was that DOF's didn't work with it, so I was missing all those little details that everyone was at the time just starting to add to their planes...opening cockpits, detaching Mistels, etc....these didn't work with it.------------------ Brought to you by the campaign for a better Dauntless! Is SDOE better online with the beta patch? If the answer is: yes, SDOE is better online with the beta patch, then I recommend it is made a part of the online standard. I just recently installed beta build 65 again, since someone told that it is the best of them. I had the newest build installed, 76 or something...? So far the older patch works fine, maybe even better than the newest patch. It had some graphical flaws, such as clouds coming "into the cockpit". I recommend everyone to try the patch, it works just fine with the regulard SDOE install since it has an independent .exe -file. If the patch is the cure to the online troubles SDOE has, it should be included in the online standard. The beta patch at my site is the first patch MH did, I tried a couple of the newer ones he did (although not the latest) and found them terrible! (no offence MH) They messed up fog, gave me silver glowing hills, flickering textures, of a whole range of wierd and wonderful things. The 1.5.1beta at my site is the best I myself tested although I do recal it giving me some problems so I don't use it, as with any Beta, use it at your own risk, and be prepared for a full re-instal of SDOE if you don't like the results as this was the only way I ever found of putting things back to normal after deciding I don't want it anymore.IP: Logged |

Build 65 doesn't have the latest networking fixes. Build 76 is the one that so many people have problems with.IP: Logged | |
