Here you go, my own side project has just begun, and I couldn't help but post it as a teaser, so, lets see if you can guess what it is, and the model is pretty damn close to how it looks so don't tell me you can't tell cause the models crap LOL"Project X" ~Nat~ ------------------ 7./JG3 "Naturlich" "SDOE... gggrrrr well, it's actually going to be La-7, but I have to agree that it looks much more like the La-5 right now, I thought that before I posted the pic and though it was closer to the 5, so maybe I'll keep it that way.Damn you Tony lol IP: Logged |

OK, here's it is, working steadily on it.. Tailslide, if you're reading, hope you don't mind me moding the Yak pit for this, it's almost perfect except for a few minor changes Lavochikin La-5FN During offensive stage of the Battle for Stalingrad new Lavochkin aircraft made its debut. In Summer 1943 the La-5FN in substantial numbers, making massive show during the Kursk Bend battle. While the La-5 was even with most of German front line fighters at low/medium altitudes, it still had some shortage in climb. With new 'Lavochkin' arrival this gap was filled. Adaptation of the basic LaGG-3 airframe with a 14-cylinder radial engine and 360 view canopy. La-5 was faster and more manoeurable than the German Bf 109F. The highest-scoring Allied fighter pilot, Ivan Kojedub, achieved all his 62 combat victories in La-5s and La-7s. ~Nat~ ------------------ 7./JG3 "Naturlich" "SDOE... Whoa, that thing looks huge! If you filled the pit with water you'd need a lifeguard!Werner ------------------ Visit Abbeville Field Today! IP: Logged |

Must be the angle of the shot then, except imo the pilot looks like he's sitting in the roomiest cockpit of any SDOE fighter, and that's a whole lot of engine in front of him, event compared to the spit! Like I said it's probably just the angle. It would be cool to see this plane parked next to a 109 and a Spit for comparison.Werner ------------------ Visit Abbeville Field Today! IP: Logged |

yep, the pit looks big right now, I've not gotten round to the re-shaping of it, it doesn't sctually need much though luckily.. thats the Yak-3 Pit, so that gives you an idea, but I'll sort out the lower level lods that take a pic of the 3 aircraft (La5, spit and 109) lined up to show you IP: Logged |

It's the planes shape that makes it look odd sized! It was based on the Lagg3 which had a really long nose! Looked well racy...shame about the performance. Then they stuck that radial on the end, and got the plane they should have had to start with! The cockpit is a long way back, rather like the Macchi's only more so! IP: Logged |

Nat, can you send me that mission, i have a side pic of the size of the Ki-61 to most fighters in WW2 and i'd like to see how it looks to the K and spit. ------------------ Tony "Razer" Martin "Making SDOE a dangerous Place, One plane at a time!" FS Hangar IP: Logged |

I think the position of the pilot makes it look big too.. in the pictures of the yak I've seen the pilots head is closer to the top of the canopy. TS IP: Logged |
