Just had my first one. I left B17 II because of this. Is it a major issue with SDOE? Also I instaled SDOE Control 2000 in my fighter squadron but the changes I made in the keyboard file dont showup in the game. How is this file supposed to work. Ive followed all the directions but no luck.

NEVER FEAR!! CTD's happen very rarely, unless you build planes. Check the MODS post to ensure a CTDless flight.

Hi. I find that if a mission you've either made or downloaded has, say a German squadron trying to fly an Allied aircraft, the mission won't work and it usually CTD's. It's an easy fix though. First make sure you have the Mission Editor installed. Then go into the FS directory, then into the Media directory then into Missions. Double click on the mission name and the Editor should run and open that mission. Look for anything that's wrong or out of place(usually a German trying to fly an Apache. It's first on the list or an incorrect squadron for a particular aircraft). Then right click on it and change it to something that's right. Don't forget to save it.
The other thing that could cause a CTD is not having a particular aircraft that's required for that mission. Simply download it and away you go. Er, most of the time.
Ground object don't seem to matter.
Did you remember to save the changes you made in your keyboard file?
Hope this helps.

Also, check the read-me files that cpome with every plane. Most of the problems that occur with planes can be traced back to something missing....

Anyway, user made mods are always going to need some testing on different set-ups, so if you ever get a CTD with a plane that didn't ship with the game, just post it up here and the builder WILL help! That is one area where the SDOE crowd score over B17II. We have had access to some really good tech support from the games builders, and still do, even though they have moved on. Plus there are lots of people who have been playing with this game for a LONG time! If it don't work, someone will know how to fix it!!!!!

More often than not the CTDs at the start of a mission occur because you don't have a squadron named in the mission. There are several WWI squadrons that come up online fairly often for WWII missions, if you don't have the WWI pack this may cause some problems periodically.

We have our fair share of CTDs but they are attributed mostly to online play. I rarely CTD in an offline game. Most of the CTDs occur when trying to enter a new game from the lobby or when a mission is being sent to the user.

So to reduce CTDs the following strategies can be useful:
1. Keep the number of missions in your multiplayer folder below 200.
2. Wait 5-10 seconds before entering a game just set up by the host.
3. For hosts: if a player does not successfully receive the mission when first sent. Briefly switch to a different mission and return to the original mission. Then send again. Overwhelmingly, if a mission is sent more than once this is when CTDs occur. I've gotten pretty good at knowing when I'm going to crash. There are exceptions but this is a common cause.

Yes....for those who make online missions...to ensure it works OK, definitely stay with the default squadrons...unless everyone has the squadrons you are using (ex....for WWI missions online, it is definitely OK to use WWI squads if they are those included in the WWI PP)...after writing this, it sounds kinda dumb...but some may have needed that info

Some advise,, If you want to fly online and not get CTD's

Most Multiplayer missions that are flown have been tested many times online, Let someone else host, they will send you the missions, 9/10 it's a mission thats been in circulation for a while and won't cause you a problem. Then you will find you will build a collection of only stable missions.

of Course we are always making new missions so expect it a few times and when it does happen just quickly rejoin the lobby. The Host will know that youv'e been checking your desktop and will have waited i'm sure
