G'day all...

Noticed today that the UK1 server wasn't showing on Tailslide's site....so I fired up the game to check on the some others...

I know some have been showing the dreaded 9999 for a while, but not only is UK1 not working, neither is Australia1. That makes a total of 7 servers now not supporting the game.

I expected some sort of rationalisation at some stage...is it happening now ???

What is the plan for the others (particularly cali12) ?

Cheers,

AGAS 5

Spanky here...

Yeah I noticed that too, I'm hoping that our use of cali12 will give activision enough reason to keep at least that one open.

really with the amount of games we are having there is no reason for more then one server.

I'm hoping that people remember that they are just meeting places and not actually a server.

Man I wish we had reason for more servers.

The uk1 server hasn't worked for a very long time. It felt like home for us too *sniff*

If all the servers go kaput, what then? I don't play anything else online so I don't know how this whole online thing works outside of SDOE.

While it has been somewhat of a EAW haven, Kali has proven itself to be an alternative. I used it over a year ago and at that time, lag was minimal and there weren't many using it as these servers were fine. Some have had problems with it, but nothing seems to be perfect online anyways!

But if we suddenly have no servers, at least that is an option...there is a one time $20 fee...but it is more stable than the lobbies in the SDOE servers. I often get a total freezeup in cali12 when chatting in the lobby-- where all I can do to get out of it is a hard reboot....that has never happened to me in Kali.

Why don't we ask Activision if we can have the multiplayer server software?

It runs on Linux and if we can host our OWN servers, then why not? I mean, Activision isn't going to host those forever, might as well fork them over to the community.

I'm of the opinion that Activision wants Activenet to die.

More than a year ago, they said that they were thinking of killing it or perhaps open-sourcing it and that they were going to decide by April. Last April.

My latest queries to them about it have been met with "we'll check" and then silence to follow-ups.

I think that your best bet is to push United Developers into retrofitting the PC version with the networking code from the Mac version.
