I was reading this article in thrustmaster, http://flightsim.thrustmaster.com/articles/read.php3?id=155 about comparing the flight model of a spitfire in three different flight sims (EAW,BoB, CFS).Or so i thought. The author kept mentioning Fighter squadron in his comparisons and usually showing that it modelled the flight characteristics better then these three. I have all four of these games(plus few other sims) yet i keep coming back to FS for no better reason than it just feels right. I cant believe i bought this game in a pack w three others for only $20. It has been on my harddrive longer than most $60 games. Now if i could only shoot something down id be in heaven. p.S. all you op gurus keep up the good work it only makes this sim better. JG3_Smoketrail IP: Logged |

All I can say is ditto to what smoketrail has said. With all the work this great community has done and what is coming down the pike, this sim is by far the best out there. Keep up the good work everyone.------------------ Condor out IP: Logged |

I agree totally. Even in CFS2 I feel more like I'm driving a model of a plane than flying one.Can you post the info on the game pack? I need to know who published it and what other games come with it. Several people overseas are interested, but they can't get the special deal for the cost of shipping only. That company only ships in North America. ------------------ "Where'd he GO!?!?" thunk-thunk-thunk-zing-OUCH That answered my question IP: Logged |

The bundle pack came from Infogrames and came with heavy gear2, total air war and a crap game called barrage. I first bought it for total air war which aint too bad. But fightersquadron was certainly a nice surprise.IP: Logged |

I just got this game and I have to agree with the above. And Ill embaressingly admit that this is the only flight sim where I start to feel a little air sick form trying to catch my trainer in air to air. But I have a question for those who play Aces High and War Birds. How does SDOE compare when it comes to FM and EM?IP: Logged |

It depends on the plane.. and I can only speak for the FM's I worked on (spits,190a4,yak, some of p38) I found the old version of Aces High the planes bled speed a lot more quickly than SDOE. I could get a spit to go from 350mph down to 170 in a half turn. The new version of aces high feels similar to SDOE for me in EM and speed bleed. SDOE is missing some features of AH like compressibility so for example when you go into a fast dive and the nose tucks under in your p38 in AH you smack into the ground. SDOE doesnt model this as well so the controls become "stiff" but you can still pull out. I find SDOE a lot more fun online than AH H2H because you fly organized missions with a beginning and end, with targets and escort, bombers etc. TS IP: Logged |

I bought it when it was a $60 game.!!It has by far been on my harddrive the longest. For that matter, it takes up over 25% of my harddrive (after a 1.5 years worth of addons and planepacks it starts to add up). TAW was a good game, I have its predecessor sitting on a shelf, graphics were good, but I haven't played F22ADF more than 4 times since I bought SDOE. Tailslide, the mission concept in SDOE is what keeps my interest too. Hey you know another game that just feels right? RC Sim - the plane in the demo just seems to behave like an RC model. It's kind of fun. Go Figure! IP: Logged |

I dunno... at times I wonder if we've been playing the game so long that anything new and different won't feel 'right' anyway. Although, even with the out-of-the-box FMs, I could detect the uniqueness of the flight. However, I've noticed that 'floating' feeling while playing with AH, too. I have to say, as far as the Spit is concerned, BoB comes closest to SDOE. I have been able to fly and survive in BoB using the same techniques as in SDOE; but this is the only one that seems to come close. I have to fly the BoB Spit very similar to the SDOE craft just to stay airborn. And it took some settings tweaking to get that. ------------------ nealg=FC= IP: Logged |

If anyone is looking, I bought my game at http://store.yahoo.com/compuexpert/pcgameseh.html It was $14.90 plus shipping and it is the complete game with manual and everything.jgro IP: Logged |

Seems to me its not that we're just used to it. I ran the Spit through the airframe test the author of the article did with one exception. I trimmed the plane out first. The plane responded on the test just like the real plane did in his report.Makes me want to try the other ones too. I do know in a tight turn when the plane starts to stall out, the low wing makes a sharp drop and will throw you into a spin, but if you catch it quickly, you can pull out like his article mentions. ------------------ "Where'd he GO!?!?" thunk-thunk-thunk-zing-OUCH That answered my question IP: Logged |

The FM depends on the model of spitfire too.. the Spitfire Mk1a had a problem with the fabric on the ailerons bellowing making for terrible roll rate at high speed. TSIP: Logged |

In retrospect...I think this is a excellent example and "opertunity" to heap some accolades upon Tailslide. I know from my bazzilion ICQ chats with him, that he has a firm understanding of what makes a good flight-model. I've seen him go to no end to ensure his FMs represent a complete "un bias" effort to their real-world model. He takes great pride in his FMs and it quite frankly shows... I believe this article further supports this. "Kudos" my friend. FSSDOE FMs may not be "perfect" but they go a long way to represent a good one. IP: Logged |

I'm with Zur on that one; kudos indeed to Tailslide. And, once in a while, Zur is no slouch either!Hey, like the FM's or not, it's the only sim now where I can fly the plane and 'feel' that I am controlling it, not some 'outside' force. And it is largely due to the great work done by Tailslide, Zur, and those who have given their time and knowledge that we can fly and have fun. Thanks to ALL of you. ------------------ nealg=FC= IP: Logged |

Ditto! And that is why I voted for Tail's Jak for the contest. I put the FM "feel" before visual model. Heck, after one mission the crate is a scrapyard piece so who cares?
