I have a bet with Werner that the B-26 was just a tad bigger then other US fighters (P-51 and P-47)Does anyone have an images of it with any fighter? Please say it was so i can win. ------------------ Tony "Razer" Martin "Making SDOE a dangerous Place, One plane at a time!" No stats please, just pictures. I'm a visual person, and that includes when it comes to victory, since of course I'll win. Werner ------------------ Visit Abbeville Field Today! IP: Logged |

Thanks loco, but what we need is a picture with the B26 and another plane in it (preferably a 51 or 47). The planes should also be relatively close together, so we can judge size. It's an odd request I know, but odd things happen when you chat over icq at strange hours of the night. Werner ------------------ Visit Abbeville Field Today! IP: Logged |

An A-26/B-26 is significantly larger than a fighter. It's closer to a B-25 than a P-51, I'd say. I've seen them at air shows.IP: Logged |

I agree with Mighty, Ive seen B-26s and B-25s and P-51s at an airshow. A B-25J's length is 52 ft. 11 in. and a B-26G's length is 56 ft. 1 in. Now the deciding factor... a P-51D's length is only 32 ft. 3 in. ! A P-51D fighter is far shorter than a B-26 or a B-25. IP: Logged |

This is the only page I found with a direct comparison. P51 is in the background, but it gives a good general feel. [This message has been edited by wakeup tailgunner (edited 01-16-2001).] IP: Logged |

If the image above was true people would be cranking out planes like crazy since they all looking the same and are the same size. I think i may have answered this myself. seems i remember having some scale plans on my modeling computer, i'm checking out it now. IP: Logged |

Spanky here... This whole threads a joke right? There isn't really anyone here that would actually think that they are anywhere near the same size right? IP: Logged |

After looking at a few images and an image i found with it and a B-17, I've just found out that i have in fact lost the bet. Oh well, this just proves you should stay up late chatting on ICQ with little sleep... ------------------ Tony "Razer" Martin "Making SDOE a dangerous Place, One plane at a time!" A-ha! I triumph again! Note SchaF and others, Razer and I never said who bet for which side, and neither one of us said they were the same size, it was more a question of just how much larger the B26 was, which also addresses Spanky's point, no this whole thread was not a joke. hehehe, I win. hahaha yea I saw that picture also, look the P-38 was much smaller than the P-47 according to that pic. but god did they have to use a blonde? well maybe the blonde represents a natural metal skin color whilst the brunette represents a painted olive drab scheme for the P-47. IP: Logged |

Um, the other thing is that a B-26 isn't a fighter. Medium bomber, so it is. Or is that was?IP: Logged |

Actually it was the A/B-26 Invader and the B-26 Marauder. The only other designation that the Marauder had was the 'Widow Maker' due to the high landing speed and the inexperience pilots. Kind of like natural selection If I am not mistaken both the A-26 and the P-47 used R-2800's for their engines. IP: Logged |

Sunray - LOL yes we know it's not a fighter, this whole thing was about just _how_ much bigger than a fighter it was. Werner ------------------ Visit Abbeville Field Today! IP: Logged |
