Go check out the second link, here are some of the responses. I goofed on a link in the first message, so the first respondant was able to figure out what game it was.

Quotes:
"Cool !! This stuff is for Fighter Squadron ?! I didn't even know it's still alive. . .( how many times have we heard that?) I already got the CD. Where can I download the add-on's ?"

"This is really Fighter Squadron-screaming demons over europe by activison? ( yes it is )
Where can I still get the basic game, and where can I download the addons?"

Good to see the PR paying off!

I chucked in my little contribution too! If we get more interest, everyone benefits!

Jug head, you say in the 2nd post that there are over 30 flyable planes. Counting varients I think we're closer to 100.

better to be consevative when blowing the trumpet! Otherwise the cynics say...

"theres four Beaufighters...they are all the same....blah blah...those 109's are all basically the same blah blah.."

We know the truth! If anyone is interested enough to follow the links here, they will find out how much stuff there is! If they can't be bothered, we won't miss them!

30 planes is pretty good when you consider the quality. Also, I think Jug didn't count stuff still technically Beta releases in his total. If you add them in, it is a LOT of planes!!!

I'm sure that MPosis, Zur and myself would be more than happy to point out to any detractors that the Bf109s are far from all the same. All 4 versions have unique cockpits, which took between 100 and 10 hours apiece to complete (and that's only the texturing). All 4 3D models share common elements but are far from simple knock up conversions. Whilst the FM and paint schemes for all have consumed many hours.

That's what I mean about quality Tail!

lets see now....

30 planes...100ish hours per plane.....that means, if someone were to attempt this themselves, unaided and without sleep, the whole lot could be built in six months...

Wonder how many hours commercial sims put in...coz I reckon we come pretty close!

p.s. I know how much work goes into getting these things 'right'. It's the pride we take in doing a good job that keeps the standard so high!

Umm guys, There's a trick to creating interest- it's called giving enough to generate curiosity, but not too much. The post on SimHQ is turning into an image blitz.

If it takes too long for the page to post, they won't wait to see what's going on.

Please hold up on the image posts. By the end of this weekend I'll have a site they can go to and peruse most of the planes. If needed I can link to your images from a thumbnail there.

Thanks for the enthusiasm, though, it does show that SDOE is active. We can actually coordinate this. I can put a teaser on a board. If we get good responses, let's wait a couple of weeks and then do a showcase post with the explanation "So many people expressed interest we got the developers to post images of their planes for you."

It's easier to generate interest if you spoon feed a little bit at a time - how many new screenshots does Il-2 postat a time? Just enough to make you want more They did the same for B-17II and BoB

A comment about PR-in the last week, while online, two people( both pre teen boys) showed who wanted to play but couldnt because they had only the basic game. they did nt know about online std. they were being ignored and not assisted, because WE were all too eager to play! PLEASE- if you see a new name, talk to them and help them. It is not convenient, I know, but it will assist the longevity of this game and site the more people we have. Try not to be a GOD, BE a MENTOR. thanks

Jug head,
As good ideas are always copied, I was planning to post some screenshots in the french mags' forums this week end, but your site idea is a much better one.
Could you please post a link to your site when you have finished it, so I can use it instead ?
If you think I should not be using your work for that, just let me know that I'm wrong there.

My idea was to get the mags to include all the add-ons necessary to update the base game to online standard in their next CD release. How does that sound ?

Sailor-

Great idea, I've got a nibble from PC pilot, Dogfighter.com is also willing to post some info.

As far as using my work goes- by all means do so. Anything you can use is all right by me. Don't even bother asking. Now , if it was an article I wrote, I'd at least ask for the credit.

If you want, I can send you the links to the images once the site is set up, and you can link to any of them you want.

This community works together- far be it from me to be a bad apple and spoil the dessert

Ground pounder- if that ever happens again- give them this e-mail address

swalker@americanisp.net

I'll see they get the info they need. For those who ignored the kids- shame on you.

If you want a new version of FS, we have to create a demand for it. The only way that will happen is by bringing in new users (Why do you think I'm doing all this work?)

One of the things that always set this community apart from others was the willingness to help out new pilots online, at the cost of a few minutes playing time. Yes, it meant you might miss a flight or two, but if you added more to the mix, it meant more quality flying time later with more pilots.

Granted, it has become a bit more complicated than a year ago ( or even 6 months ago ) but let's hope that trend continues. Online, even with the bugs, is still the best advertising we have. And FSIC should still be the hub of the wheel leading to all the great user sites. Make sure they know to come here as much as possible for updates, links, and help.

Thank You Jug Head, I would of course have given you credit for your work everywhere. It'll be very usefull to link to your site as not all forums allow screenshots in the posts.
I've already started (slowly) to take advantage of the questions asked on the recent flight sims (B-17 and BOB)to reply with links to this forum (saying that we have more planes, more accurates FMs and DMs, and that SDOE runs on smaller configs) + I think I read that B-17 didn't have on-line capability (what's the exact word ?).
I'll try to build a site on my own arount a variation of your idea, hope to post a link tomorrow night if I manage to work a few hours on that..
Cheers

Sorry guys- came down with a nasty bug this weekend. Work for the SDOE site people can link to for pictures and descriptions of SDOE updates is progressing, but a lot slower than I expected (brains in a fog, want to sleep most of the time). I've had to restart the index page 2 times because of a lack of concentration and making a stupid mistake.

Everything takes longer than expected... http://mapage.cybercable.fr/fmailhos/missions/
I tried to show some of the possibilities of the new planes, The idea would be to create a few missions "reports" like this one on different topic (WW1, Russian Front, BoB with balloons, Do17 and hurricane...) to us as examples.
This one is still a draft, and of course, any comments are welcome.
Cheers
