Well, boredom is a dangerous thing!

Got badly bored at work today, so I started playing with AC3D....

Thought I'd make a proper 'E' model nose, with the chin turret cleaned up. Thought I could release it along with the B17G when I finish re-DM'ing it.

Then, I thought, why not do the 'D' to get a full set of wartime B17's....

Most of the work I have been doing is on the wings and engines, and these were pretty much the same all through....

so...I now have a new nose-glass section with the full framework, a plain dome to replace the top turret, a new tail section, new Vstab, and some domes to go where the waist gunners were. The fuse holes have been ovalled ( it looks a little rough, but there is a limit to what you can do here without a complete re-build.... ) and a gondola to carry the rear firing belly guns. What I don't know is where the top guns went!

The info I have say a total of 7 .50's

1 - nose mount

1 each left and right waist positions

twin mount in belly gondola

twin mount on upper gun position.....WHERE!

It must either be in the glass dome, or where the radio op gun went on later models, since the radio op. manned it. It wasn't a turret, but was a flex-mounting.

Anybody know?

Plan is to release a full set of B17's in a few weeks......

Tailgunner - have you seen my thread about the online bomb bay ordnance bug work-around idea (geesh I need a better name for it than that) in tech talk? Since you're working on the forts right now it might be useful for you.

Actually it's
1- .30
6- .50's

1- nose, .30 could be moved to one of 6 gun ports in the nose

2-radio gunner twin .50's firing up through the dorsal window.

2- ventral metal "bathtub" twin .50's

1- each waist position (2)

No turrets or tail guns- the .50's mounted in the dorsal and ventral positions were supposed to take care of this.

The B version used blisters for the waist positions. the C & D version just used flush oval glass.

Umm-

You also need to change it to a "sharktail"

Dorsal window! excellent!

That was all I needed to know!

Got a sharktail, got metal bathtub underneath, got blisters..( well the plane has! ) just need to paste it all together!

The nose gun will have to be mounted in a fixed position. I don't know any way to make it switchable!
