I think you did a wonderful job with this aircraft Aladar. And your right, it is better to take-off and land from the F2 key. Does this aircraft have a tail hook? I can make it to the deck alright, but stopping in time is a real chore. Thanks for the 'cuda', it's a 'beauda'.JPIP: Logged |

This is a very cool plane indeed. I cant wait to see what she looks like when shes finished. Not that much to do really. Add instruments for the rear cockpits, put in a few more modeling details and then FM tweaking and DM tweaking [This message has been edited by ArgonV (edited 01-08-2001).] IP: Logged |

Excellent aircraft, I've always felt it got a bum rap in history. I like it so much I already have three schemes for it on my site (OK, so one of them is just a minor variation on the default, but there are two Pacific schemes). Well done and thanks!------------------ Be seeing you, 3dp Visit RAF Harkness! [This message has been edited by 3dp (edited 01-09-2001).] IP: Logged |

Beautiful skins!! I was hoping someone would do some better skins for this bird (or should I say gull?) Looks awesome!! Here is some info. When first flown on December 7th, 1940, the first prototype Barracuda was seen to be a cantilever shoulder-wing monoplane of all-metal construction, the foldable wings incorporating Fairey-Youngman trailing-edge flaps that gave the aircraft a much improved performance capability over its predecessors. The fuselage accompanied a crew of three in tandem cockpits, enclosed by a long 'greenhouse' canopy; and housed the main units of the tailwheel landing gear when retracted. Because of the high priority afforded to fighters and bombers, this aircraft did not fly until June 29th, 1941, and it wasn't until February of 1942 that service trials and evaluation haad been completed. These showed the need for airframe strenthening which, together with the addition of equipment not included in the original specification, resulted in the Barracuda suffering from a weight problem that persisted through its service life. It played havoc with take-off and climb performance and after 30 Barracuda Mk.Is had been built, introduction of the 1223-kW (1640-hp) Merlin 32 resulted in the redesignation to Barracuda Mk.II, which was the main production version. In all, 1688 Barracuda Mk.IIs were built by Fairey, Blackburn, Boulton Paul, and Westland. The Barracuda TR.III was evolved to take a new ASV radar installation, with a blister radome beneath the rear fuselage. The prototype, converted from a Boulton Paul-built Barracuda Mk.II, first flew in 1943. Following orders placed that year, production of this version began in early 1944, built alongside Barracuda Mk.IIs, and 852 Barracuda TR.IIIs were manufactured by both Boulton Paul and Fairey. 821 Squadron's Barracuda Mk.IIs were operational from May 1944 to April 1945, and its Barracuda TR.IIIs from January 1945 to February 1946. They were stationed aboard HMS Puncher during the following periods: - Nov. 26th to Nov. 30th, 1944 - Dec. 30th 1944 to Jan. 12th 1945 - Feb. 17th to Feb. 24th, 1945 - Mar. 15th to Mar. 16th, 1945 - Mar. 23rd to Mar. 28th, 1945 - Apr. 5th to Apr. 12th, 1945 The Commanding Officer of 821 Squadron during its time onboard Puncher was L/C(A) M. Thorpe, RN, who held that position from May 1st, 1944 to June 13th, 1945. Ah I see! Now I know why this plane has a such a hard time taking off from carriers, your engine is off by a few hundred hp. I boosted it up to 1640 hp and she takes off just fine now. You might want to change that aswell for your next release of this great bird. P.S. Torpedoing is this is a blast! P.P.S I looked in a few of my books (I found some little bits of info.) and it shows 288 mph @ 1,750 ft. Please take that into consideration when you are tweaking and finalizing the FM. P.P.P.S. (If there is such a thing) Did you get the pilot and Nav guys I sent you? Do their chutes work? Cheers! [This message has been edited by ArgonV (edited 01-09-2001).] IP: Logged |

Yep, their chutes work! Thanks alot! Thanks for all the info too, I got a book for christmas on British Warplanes, and it has about 2-3 pages on the barracuda, including operational pictures. Really cool. Thanks, its back to the 163 panel.IP: Logged |

And for the truly anal retentive among us . . .To go with the schemes, I have just added a squadron for the Barracuda (827RN) to the GUI Modifications section of RAF Harkness. It took part in the attacks against the Tirpitz but my sources are unclear as to whether it was flying from HMS Furious or HMS Victorious at the time. My squadron description is suitably evasive on this point! P.S. By the way, can anyone tell me why I can't post images (thanks for posting yours of my scheme Argon-V)? I code links just like everyone else does using UBB Code, but it just won't work. Although the proper size for the image comes up in my posts, there is no picture. My best theory is that it has something to do with my ISP. Oh well . . . ------------------ Be seeing you, 3dp Visit RAF Harkness! OK. Color me stupid, but before I screw up another of Aladar's zip files, tell me where all the files go, especially the .sm's. There are pilot sm's for other planes, some are located in the plane's main folder and some in the seperate "pilot" folder. Where do these go? And what's the BarradcudaWire.sm? There are no install instructions. IP: Logged |

BarracudaWire, BarracudaPilot, BarracudaNav, and Barracuda.sm goes in the Barracuda file in the aircraft folder. IP: Logged | |
