Oh yes, it's still very much alive!

After the resurrection of the Tailgunner pc, I have got it up and running!

A copy of the SM has been punted over to Razer for a little help on one or two things, but some major steps forward have been taken!

As anyone who can remember my previous posts on the B24 should know, it is a completely new model. I have switched it to the earlier model, with the glazed nose. I felt it fitted better with the overall scheme of things ( o.k. I like to look of it more )

The nose glass has been added since this picture was taken too...

The frames for the nose and cockpit took bloody ages! You can't just build a shape and make holes, since the holes all end up in the wrong place!

Hopefully, if Razer can fix the little problems, I can get stuck into finishing the motor textures, and putting the interior in. All the shapes are built for bomb-bay, cockpit and rear sections, and new turrets are half built. Then there is the landing gear to build....and...gulp...the panel....

Still, I think it was well worth taking a step back and re-building the model. Sure, I threw a lot of hours work away, but the model is so much better!

Beautiful!!!! I like the earlier model too. If you need a texture for the Lib, bounce it my way! I'd be glad too, since I cant get the 163 panel to work I need to take a cooler.

The nose on the earlier model was totally knackered. There were some bad polys, which, when I tried to fix them gave shading problems....

Then I found that most of the good info I had on B24's was for the earlier model....

then I bought a book with an absolutely lovely full colour 3-way of this plane....

The rear part of the fuse has been modded, along with better engines. The old ones were to round, and didn't properly show the oval shape. Also, I found I had made the cut-outs for the turrets a little too large...

It was easier to re-build!

I'll post some more shots in a day or two. I need to do the tail, and get the interior shapes in. Also, Razer has offered to help out with a few things that were giving me problems! And I thought he was resting!

He also mentioned about mapping on a skin....and having seen what his textures look like....

The current tex will do for now, while I build the bulk of it. Razer has the AC3D file, and I would be honoured if he found the time to texture it!

I'm a big B-17 fan but WT, you have one fine looking plane there!!! I always thought B-24's were kinda ugly but yours looks, well...almost pretty. Great job.!!!

I look forward to the finished product.

I've been waiting for this for a long time. I really want to start painting these. Please send me one after you get the texture mapping done, PLEASE!!!!

I just have 1 little wish/request/idea, would it be possible to put a couple of nose art panels, one on each side? I've seen a lot of B-24 pics that have beautiful, elaborate nose art often on both sides. If at all possible they need to be much larger than the small poorly placed panels on the B-17.

She looks great, can't wait to fly her.

I know this sound realy strange but can i have a view that looks out of the glas nose but i can still fly the plane. I am requesting this because i saw this film a while ago of a real bombing raid and they placed a camara looking out the glass nose
and it looked cool.

Don't know about having a flyable position in the nose. Depends whether you can have more than one co-pilot! Otherwise, you end up with the co-pilot position in the nose. But that will be a bridge to cross when I come to it!

At present, Razer is mapping on a real texture, which will be ready soon. I put in a request for a bare metal skin.....just so you painters could have a good template! But I'll take whatever Razer has done, coz the man can texture!

Then, it's in with the proper tail, swap in props from the B17, re-texture the engines and internals ( it has basic cockpit insides without panel ) and build a new tail turret and top turret. Mount the flex-guns where they should be, work out a retract for the ball turret ( it needs to be tied to the undercarriage ) so it doesn't ground on landing, build and dof the undercarriage, sort out the panel, DM it, FM it, sort out the loadouts, and it's finished............er does this list seem a little long....
