Actually, if I remember correctly the poly count wasn't that much higher in the end (though the plane looked incredibly better....) I was under the impression that his changes were going to use the FM that was in 5.3b and shipped under 6.0 (at least that was my recommendation...).
The newer version with the rebuilt tail is still in process. The FM for the 38 is a (insert your expilcative here...) pain. Just ask Zur. By his admission, probably the most complex in the sim....

In addition improvements to the way DMs are done need to be applied to her also.... (Hint to any DM gurus out there...)

Currently FM improvements are on hold until the PBY Beta is released. In order to do the FM changes justice, I need to have some test pilots who are willing to do the job right (very specific tests before and after changes.... and this is _very_ time consuming). The P38 deserves nothing less. That is why I wanted her, and that is why I will keep her until I get it to what I feel is right, (documented of course and hopefully I can get someone from the "Planes of Fame" in Chino to validate at least part of the FM) or until someone with the same attitude towards quality, and love of this plane steps forward....

yea, i still have the model. It's wasn't that much higher in poyl count, just shaped better. There was a few things that needed yo be done to the model, but i just didn't have time once i restarted the Ki-61.

it still needs a tad bit of work before it can be released.

Man I love this plane. I really appreciate the attitude for excelence here. Is there any possible way that we could get a test beta for just some of the improvements? Thanks! If I had the time or could do anything to help, I would love to.

Much as I would love to post a beta just so people can get a feel for whats going on, I would rather not post one that is bad. (Though it has been tested online and is already better... Hows that for teasing....) There has been a _lot_ of effort poured into the PBY and this (along with real life) has currently stalled the changes to the '38. The PBY has some ground handling probs, Nat is doing some DM'ing and there are some minor tweaks to DOFs, QA, Then, beta1!!!! Then I need a rest from the PBY for a bit and I will go back to the P38J (the P38L and P38L-1-L0 and droop snoot come later ) Santa gave me a 7 volume video collection on warbirds. Each of the 7 covers 1 plane. Not sure I would have bought it for myself, but it has some interesting P38 and P40 footage...
As jedi put so nicely in a different thread, patience grasshopper...

Hey Snickers,

I have that series too. It's got it's good and bad parts, but there is some intresting info you'll pick up.

For example, the p-47 video points out that on a 4- 5 hour bombing mission (time for one way), the fighters could only stay with the bombers for 45 minutes to 1 hour, so it would take 800 to 1000 fighters flying sorties to keep 100 planes on station for one bombing mission.
