I don't know the details of close-outs, but there are several legitimate avenues where a game gets discounted more and more until a company ends up with them and is hoping someone will pay just to get the packages out of the warehouse.

Michael has already shared that SDOE never sold enough copies to pay back Activision's advance. So Parsoft will never make any royalties on the game.

Once Activision kisses it good bye, what would be the proceedure to get rights for remastering? (Remaster the CD like Nat said above, if anything is made, us it to fund more contests and such.... I have no idea what would be involved legally, but what a kick!)

Hey, since it's North America offer only, could anyone grab one beautiful copy for me!?
Or anyone want to sell their used/second copy?

Pleeez, I'll send cash for both shippings forward.

(Contact with me first, so there won't be several helping orders :)

Have fun,

Hey, Snickers and Nat, I really think you got something there.
Although I dont have the faintest idea of how it could be done and what it would cost, I think it would be a great thing is the openplane community could do one of the following :
- do as you say, repackage the game with all the add-ons,
- provide inertia with add ons so that they could issue a new release (upgrade ?)
- distribute the SDOE "Engine" with only some campaigns / planes / terrains on a pay per episode system (like Arabian Night ?)
- disclose the source code (and not just the objects )(like linux) so those who can could improve it again (adapt to new 3D cards, processors, modify water so you can land on it, implement moving ground objects...),
Like everyone here I think SDOE is a great game and could have a real future if marketed with some imagination (OK, may be I am being over optimistic here but I REALLY think it s a question worth thinking of)
Cheers
Sailor
